Melissa's POV
"Wait, what?" I question, not sure if I heard Jeniah correctly.
"I said, I thought you'd like to know what Niall and I were talking about this morning." Jeniah repeats part of what she previously said.
"Tell me!" I squeal, shaking Jeniah. Jeniah opens her mouth to say something then gets distracted by something else.
She gives me a funny look and says, "What is that and where did you get it from?" I look at what she's looking at and see the picture Zayn painted.
"Oh, that?" I point at the painting and she nods. "It's a painting of me, obviously. And I got it from Zayn. We were painting in his room earlier and this is what he painted. He gave me his painting and I gave him my painting."
"That's not weird at all." Jeniah shakes her head.
"That doesn't matter! Just tell me what you and Niall were talking about!" I beg.
"Why should I?" She questions, raising one of her eyebrows.
"Because you're my friend!" I whine.
She thinks for a moment, then asks, "What do I get out of this?"
"Uh, the satisfaction of telling your best friend a secret." I answer, not wanting to have to give her something.
"Really? That's the best you can come up with? Try something else." She laughs.
"Gosh, I'll bake you a cake." I huff, just wanting her to tell me.
"Can you even bake?" She asks warily.
"Nah. I'll just make someone else bake it." I answer, making both of us laugh a little.
"As I long as I get my cake." Jeniah says, "So, we were talking about you-"
"Thank you for the brand new information, captain obvious." I roll my eyes.
"As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted. We were talking about you and what we thought was good for you, as you already know." She glares at me when she finally finishes the sentence, "And you know that I've been trying to convince you that Niall and Liam like you, and that I've been trying to make you admit that you like them as well. Although you might not now that last part. Anyways, Niall caught on to what I was doing and he didn't like it.-"
"What do you mean he didn't like it? If he likes me then he would want me to like him back wouldn't he?" I question.
"Will you stop cutting me off!" She yells, obviously annoyed with me.
"Fine, I'll wait until the end to ask questions."
Jeniah sighs and starts where she left off at, "He doesn't want you to end up with Liam or himself. Something about not wanting to put you in the spotlight. Which, really? You're already in the spotlight, so why stop now? Either way, he doesn't want you to date Liam, because that'll cause a lot of issues. And he doesn't want you to end up having to marry him, because you'd basically be stuck and he'd like you out of the public eye as soon as possible. So that's what we were talking about."
"Is that why we don't go anywhere anymore?" I ask, making Jeniah grunt.
"Is that really the only thing you got from everything I just told you? I wonder about you sometimes." She shakes her head.
"You want real questions?" Jeniah nods. "Why won't both of you just let me decide for myself? Since when did you guys end up like my parents, trying to control my life? And I'll like whoever I want, whenever I want!" Jeniah is shocked of my outburst, frozen on her spot on the bed. Instead of waiting for the shock to dissolve I leave. Not only the room but the house.
Once I get far enough away from the house I stop walking. I look around and see a small park. I decide to walk to it and sit at the bench that's there. Sitting on the bench I start thinking about what just happened. I realize I overreacted, like always. So I walk back to the house.
"Where have you been!?" Jeniah yells as I walk into the house.
"Sorry, I just needed some air. You know, to clear my head." I apologize.
"You were gone for two hours! I thought you had gotten kidnapped!" She keeps yelling, tears in her eyes.
I sigh and say, "Jeniah, I really am sorry. I'm just tired of people trying to run my life for me. I do a bad enough job as it is."
"Oh, Melissa! I would never try and run your life, I just want what's best for you." Jeniah says to me, starting to cry.
"Don't cry." I tell her, walking up to her and giving her a hug. And that's when the others get home, lugging in a lot of shopping bags.
"I feel like we're walking in on you two having a moment." Harry says awkwardly. Jeniah and I let go and laugh at Harry.
"You're good, Harry." Jeniah smiles at Harry. I elbow her on her side. She just looks at me.
"Hey, Mel." Niall says, catching my attention. "Do you mind helping me with something?" He asks. The room suddenly goes awkwardly silent, like everyone knew that Niall wanted to talk not that he wanted help.
"Um, yeah. Sure. Why not?" I answer, nervously. Niall walks with his shopping bags, probably to his room, and I follow him. We get to his room and Niall puts his bags down then turns towards me.
"So I guess you know now." Niall bites his lip.
I shrug my shoulders and say, "It's not that big of a deal. I got some air and realized I had overreacted, so I'm cool with it now."
"I thought it was going to be weird, you know. With the situation we're in, I wouldn't be surprised if you hated me." He says, looking anywhere but my eyes.
"Why would it have been weird, Niall? You wanting to take me out of the spotlight is sweet, really." I assure him, but Niall just makes a confused face.
"That's not what I was worried about, Mel. The other thing Jeniah told you." He tells me, making me confused as well.
"What in the world are you talking about?" I ask him, having no clue what he's talking about.
"You know." He takes a deep breath and continues, "Me liking you as more than a friend." I gasp, my entire body freezing.
"W-what?" I squeak, once I gain control of my body again.
"Didn't sh-she tell y-you?" Niall asks, looking more shocked than I feel.
I shake my head, saying, "No..."

AN: Is it weird that I was freaking out with the characters? Eh, you've gotta feel it to write it. So, what do you guys think of the chapter? It seems kind of cheesy and predictable, but this is my first story that I've wrote (and haven't deleted), so it won't be that great. My writing has actually improved, but I don't want this to seem like two different stories so I write very similar to what I did in the beginning.
Niall confessed to liking Melissa!!! One down, who knows how many more to go ;)
You guys should thank @CuppydiCaker (whom this chapter is also dedicated to!) for making me want to update with her comment! I wasn't sure when I was going to update with my dad having surgery on Thursday and all, but I spent all day writing this for you guys!
Wanted to put up a gif of Niall's reaction when he realized that Jeniah didn't tell Melissa, but alas, I am terrible at finding gifs. I was also going to put a song on the side, but wattpad keeps saying that the video is not valid. So if you want, listen to the song 'Dirty Little Secret' by The All-American Rejects. It doesn't have much to do with the chapter, but I really like the song.
I hope you guys like the chapter! Love you guys!!
