Melissa's POV
It turned out that 'nice' was actually my definition of nice. Liam and I talk about anything and everything under the sun. It's amazing to just talk to someone and not have to worry about the person getting upset. It's truly great to get away from all of the drama. Although it may not seem like it, but I can't stand drama.
"So what are you going to do about Niall?" Liam asks me, making me really think.
"To be honest, I've got no clue. He's ticked at me and there's nothing I can do about it." I answer, not knowing what I'm to do about my situation.
"I think all he really needs is a wake up call." Liam tells me.
"Would slapping him work?" I ask, a little too enthusiastic about possibly being allowed to slap him.
Liam laughs and says, "That could work, but he'd more than likely get mad at you for doing it. I think that you should just go up to him and tell him what you think and feel."
"But what's the fun in that?" I whine. "I guess I could try that, though. What's the worst that could happen?"
"He could hate you for forever." Liam answers my rhetorical question.
"Thanks for the support, Li."
"Anything for you, Melissa." Liam smlies at me. It's not until then that I realize that Liam really does care for me more than just a friend would.
Two days later is when I finally decide to take Liam's advice. Niall and I have been left home alone, as the others have gone sightseeing and we've already seen all of the sights there is to see. I search for him all around the house and find that he's not here. I walk out of the house to see if he's in the backyard. And that's exactly where I find him, swinging on my old, beat up swing set.
"What do you want?" Niall questions me as I sit next to him on the other swing.
"I'm going to talk to you, and you're going to listen." I say, being harsher than I intended.
Whatever." He rolls his eyes. I start swinging a little, looking at my surroundings to try to get my heart to stop beating so fast.
My backyard has aged a lot since I first moved here. There are patches of dead grass from where a trampoline used to sit. The flower bushes that my mom had planted are wilting from lack of attention and all of the weeds that surround them. A tree that I carved my name into -with the help of my brother and father- is at least five times the size it was when I moved here. My swingset is rusting at the spots that the used-to-be bright red paint chipped off. I look at the sky -seeing grey clouds that cover the sun- and sigh, hoping I don't completely screw things up.
"I don't have much -or even any- room to say this, but there's not much I can do about that." I start off, "You can't keep doing this; acting like you're the victim in this situation. Your actions don't just affect yourself. They affect everyone around you, Niall. You basically ruined Christmas for everyone, just because you got mad that the boys spent it with us. You've made your best friends turn on each other. You-"
Niall cuts me off, turning his head towards me and saying, "So you came out here to tell me all that I've done wrong and to make me feel bad?"
"You're pushing me away." I cry out. "If you like me, why would you do this?"
"Like it even matters to you! You don't even like me back." He yells, making me thankful that my neighbors left for the holidays.
I surprise myself when I say, "Who's told you that I don't like you back? You won't even give me a chance to tell you if I do or not!"
I'm even more surprised when he asks, "Well do you?"
"Yes, for godsake!" And it's not until then that I realize that I actually do like Niall back.
"That's what I-wait, what? Did you just say that you like me?" He asks, looking as shocked as I feel.
"Of course I do, Niall."
"Wow."
"Shocking, ain't it?" I chuckle nervously.
"I was expecting you to say no." He admits.
"I didn't even know I was going to say yes." I tell Niall, making him laugh.
"Only you, Mel. Only you." He shakes his head, smiling for the first time in a long time.
I sigh and say, "What am I supposed to tell Liam now?"
"Tell him the truth." Niall says to me.
"I don't want to hurt him, he's one of my best friend's. I can't do that to him." I rest my head in my hands, wishing my life wasn't so complicated.
"If he's really your friend he wouldn't hate you for it." Niall assures me. "Yeah, he may be upset about it for a little while, but he'll get over it because he's your friend."
Our moment ends when we hear a car door slam, making my eyes go wide. "That would be them."

AN: I feel like I'm rushing this story. I really don't have an inbetween, do I?
Picture on the side is what the sky looks like, since I'm crap at describing stuff. The song is 'Never Be' by 5 Seconds Of Summer.
