A pregnant silence filled the room.
I fought down an exasperated groan as my feeble body slumped down on the bed.
Suddenly, an idea came to me.
I jumped up and grabbed a finished book from the bedside table and smacked myself with it.

" What the hell are you doing ? " His voice called out. But I was too dazed to answer.

Shit, so this isn't a dream.

I rubbed the red mark on my forehead, a painful reminder of the encounter with a hardback copy of Harry Potter.

" Listen, " the guy began.
" I know this is weird and new to you, but you have to believe me. I mean, you saw everything with your own eyes! "

I frowned.
The memory of his bird-like wings was engraved in my mind.

" Im Kai. " He continued, and I reluctantly returned his sheepish smile.

I forgot that we didn't even know each other's names.

" Cordelia. " I replied. The hint of a smile creeping up to my lips.

" Cool. Can I call you Della? " My face turned slack at the question. I hated nicknames.

" No. "

" Hmmm, okay. How about Corry? "
I grimaced.

" That's even worse. "

" Okay, Corry it is then. "

He clapped his hands and I gave him an eye roll, shaking my head at how wrong this all felt.

" I think you owe me an explanation. " I nagged. The flicker of amusement in his eyes seemed to die out.
Sighing, he ruffled his dark hair and sat down beside me.

" You see, there is much more to this world than revealed to the human eye. You mortals live in what we call the Terra, the in between of heaven and hell. "

" Terra, or ' Earth ' as you might call it, links all three dimensions. It is home to the undecided, who belong in neither paradise or purgatory. "

" So what happens when we die? " I ask.

" Well, not much really. Your soul travels to hell- were you dwell in misery. "

" Huh. That sounds fun. "

" Of course, there's more to it than the downsides. If your soul originally comes from the Terra, you have the chance to become a chosen one. You travel to heaven and reside amongst the rulers of the three worlds. " He drones, his voice pitched with slight annoyance.

" However, if you're born a child of calamity, like me, you inhabit hell forever. It's not that ' demons ' are bad, merciless creatures. Most of us don't even live up to our name. The Rulers™ just decided that we're not good enough, all because of something my ancestor did.

Satan fell in love with one of Gods' sons, which was forbidden for a mere angel like him. It was but innocent loving, but it got him banished from heaven and sent to die in the world of chaos. Out of hatred, he created us,  a supposedly ruthless and destructive progeny that shall one day avenge him.  " His eyes trailed down to
his sneakers, sorrow shadowing his
face.

" If- If the heavens hate you so much, why are you a guardian angel? "

" Demons and angels follow an unspoken rule. They stay out of our territory, and we keep out of theirs. However, despite how much we loath one another- there is no rule that forbids demons from becoming angels, or vice versa. It's possible- technically, but not practically. No one has ever attempted it after the incident with Satan, but I intend to. " He kept up a tough exterior, but his eyes failed to hide the remorse he was feeling.

" Many despise me for wanting to become one of them. But I- I just-
This war we have going on is so fcking tiring, and I just want it to stop. It sounds cliche, but I want to be different . I want to see a change that I am the cause of. "

Kai stood up, brushing off imaginary dust from his oversized sweater.

" It's a long story- and we don't have much time to waste. "
He grabbed my hand with no hesitation, and I blushed at the sudden contact.

" Wait- Where are we going? " I babbled, stumbling as I struggled to follow his fast pace.

Kai gave me a sideways glance, and I could just make out the smirk he failed to suppress. He stopped by my window, briefly opening it and climbing out. I hesitated to take his outstretched arm.

He gave me a proper smile this time, urging for me to come forward.

" Before we leave, you have to tell me where we're going Kai. "

Suddenly, he grasped my hips and jumped out into night sky, me following suit. I squirmed as I awaited my death, we were certain to crash.

" Home. "

" What? " I barked, ensuing a trail of curses.
He chuckled, before those very wings I saw in my dream emerged out of nowhere, catching the wind under the mass of feathers.

" Home. That's our destination. "
