(WATCH VIDIO FOR CONTEXT)
So, recently, I found this awesome YouTuber/rapper by the name of boyinaband(AKA Dave Brown).
He really cool and you should check him out.
Any who.
He made this really cool rap a while back about how the syllabus is messed up and outdated. It's really awesome (Vid above).
At one point in the rap, he mentions how he was never taught his Human Rights,
("I was shown the wavelengths of different hues of light
But I was never taught my human rights
Apparently, there's 30, do you know them? I don't.
Why the hell can't we both recite them by rote?!")And this made me realize I didn't know them either, so, being the internet-obsessed gal I am, I Googled it.
hu·man rightnounplural noun: human rightsa right that is believed to belong justifiably to every person."a flagrant disregard for basic human rights"
And then I found the UN page where it showed the entire document along with random facts and shiz. (http://www.un.org/en/universal-declaration-human-rights/).
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU READ THE FULL PAGE, I'M JUST GOING TO QUOTE CERTAIN PARTS, NOT THE ENTIRE THING (Cause it's reallllyyy long).
I was confused about a certain part, so I asked my mom, who is a teacher.
"Article 26.
(1) Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.
(2) Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.
(3) Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children."(That's copied and pasted, nothing changed. I just took it from the page and pasted it here.)
She didn't really understand it either so we asked one of our friends (who is also a teacher) and she said
"Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least to younger kids."And it made sense. And then I found out that Dave(boyinaband) made a video about this topic two.
(BTW, I think he's cuter with glasses. But that's just me).
Then I started thinking about the difference between my childhood and a lot of other kids' childhoods.
I'm a white, American girl who was raised in a middle-class Christian home with both parents and was homeschool along with my three siblings.
One of my best friends (@miley6girl) is a mixed girl who lives with her preacher grandpa and grandmother along with her mom and five siblings and goes to a public highschool.
I didn't really notice how different our lives are until I typed that. (Still luv u Abs).
This really had no point, but I thought this was neat, so I'm gonna post it, cause why not?
Smooches,
Hannah <3
