Chapter 17

A month had passed since the incident. Professor Noble had made no comment about that night and continued to treat me as if it had never happened. Why she was in his office that evening was unknown, but I figured its normal for teachers to be friends between each other - more normal than teacher and student.

Being eaten inside by the curiosity and fear that night had brought me, I spend hours in the library going through every book imaginable for an answer, but I couldn't find anything that could explain it. John seemed to pretend it was nothing to pay attention to which I thought was very annoying. Sure, odd things happen in the Wizarding world, but there is usually an answer and it is never really this odd and terrifying.

I sat in the common room next to the fire, keeping warm as I read through "Oddities And Abnormalities Of Witchcraft". It was very late and most people were in bed, but even since the last "experience", I had trouble sleeping.

I flipped the last page of the huge volume, sighing heavily not finding something the slightest bit helpful. I pushed it aside and got up to go to bed when there was a sudden tapping in the window. I turned around to see Pig standing on the ledge, shaking from the cold. I hurried to let him in, the poor thing. In his beck was a letter with my name written in a very familiar handwriting. As Pig placed himself next to the fire, I opened it.

Hermione,

I know I haven't been so great to you these past months and I realize I was wrong to treat you like that, you don't deserve that, you are an amazing girl and a truly brilliant witch and I took you for granted. So I'm sending you this to say that I am sorry. Really sorry.

I hope you can forgive me.

I frowned reading it. I had realized that in the past month, I hadn't thought about him as much as I should have. I felt a little bad, but as the imagine of him flirting openly with the Ravenclaw girl played in my mind, I didn't anymore. He didn't treat me right and I was glad he was seeing that now, but I kinda felt... indifferent. Somehow, I was accepting that fact that it might not work out between Ron and I after all...
