Funmi's POV
We had finally managed to get Hannah to leave the couch and go upstairs to Dubem's room because she said and I quote is 'to lazy to go to her house to nap' , the funny thing is that her home is just two houses to Dubem's house. What a weird girl right? I know what a weird bunch we were. And we weren't able to talk about the shoes that Teniola Coker wore to her wedding in the end of everything. Until next week when I would be back from Ogun state.
The more I thought about the place, the more I dreaded going which made me start contemplating not going and making up a story about having a cold so I won't go.
But I haven't seen Aunty Funke since she went to London to live with her son for a while because she didn't want to leave him alone in that big city. I really missed her. She was the cool aunt that everyone wished they had but don't. She wanted him to settle in uni before she came back to Nigeria. As if he can't manage on his own. That brings me back to the Tunde's matter of a thing. My mum told me that their family moved to London and they were coming to Nigeria to visit people.
I haven't seen Tunde seen when we were kids barely five and why I was just worked over this I didn't understand one freaking bit. I don't even remember how his face looks like.
I was lost in thought until I heard my mum call for me."Funmi! Funmi!" Mum shouted. "Come na! This girl! Funmi!"
Geez. This woman should go for drill sergeant classes I swear she would make a fabulous one. One day when she will loss that her voice she will know. Shouter for Africa.
"Mummy, I'm coming" I yelled back.
I left my room and made my way downstairs to the living room where my mum was perched on one of the love seats with her trusty infinix phone and cat eyed glasses staring at the screen zoom in and out all the while smiling. My baby brother Tunji was playing with a toy car besides her. He didn't even notice my entrance at all.
"Funmilola please call Bukie and Gbemisola for me. They are in the kitchen washing plates." She pointed to the kitchen door at the end of the dining room which was opposite the living room.
I turned on my heel and sashayed my way to the kitchen to meet a slightly angry Bukie with Gbemi giggling her butt off. Bukie was washing and Gbemi was rinsing the plates off.
"Kilode, why is that one laughing at you, Bukie?" I said looking pointedly at Gbemi.
"Well she lost a bet!" Gbemi said between laughs causing Bukie to splash her soapy water.
"Explain."
"We played rock paper scissors to see who would wash the plates and who would rinse them. Aunty Bukola was boasting so I won now she dey vex!" Then she burst into another fit of laughter.
"Abeg una and your wahala. Mummy is calling us. And Bukie stop grumbling you can see the consequences of boasting."
"Yes oh! Ntorgi" Gbemi stuck out her tongue.
Did I mention they were twins and a year younger than me? I didn't. I have now.
"I am going. Let Mummy meet you guys here first you will enter yawa." I turned to leave.
They both quickly dried their hands with towels and followed me into the living room in total obedience. We all gathered around Mummy.
"Eh hen, you guys have finally decided to come here." She said looking up from her phone. "Remember Aunty Cecelia?See her and her family now."
She gave me the phone to have a proper look at it. The screen showed a Facebook page with various pictures of a family, The Afolabi's. I picked one of the picture to have a good look at it. A woman and man with four smiling children. Two teenagers and two kids who looked excited to be there. I must say the photographer did a fantastic job to be honest. The picture was amazing. I caught the studio's name at the bottom of the picture just in time. Purple effects wow. That studio was expensive as shit. For a family shot, really? Well it wasn't my business anyway.
Speak of the devil and he shall appear. It was Tunde, I don't know how I still remember but I do. The deep dimples, the light brown eyes and the full pink lips with that same cocky smirk. I don't know how to describe him but he had this beautiful shade of melanin that I have ever seen. Yo I wish I had that skin.
The family were seated in a long cream couch, the mum, Aunty Cecelia sat at one end, her husband sat the other while the children were sandwiched in the middle.
The girl on one side to their mum while the boys on the other to their dad.My love, Fola and my hearts; Dele, Laide, Ian and Tunde was writing at the bottom with a red heart emoji.
Aunty Cecelia looked like the playful type of mum with her smiling eyes and grin that seemed to never leave her light brown face. She had a slightly flat nose that was widened because of her smiling, eyes just like Tunde's and full pink lips.
I could see where Tunde's got most of his looks from. His dad on the other hand had a more fairer complexion with a pointed nose, eyes on the deep drown side, a most invisible smile he looked like someone who doesn't take rubbish at all. Lest I forget he was sporting the bald head look the most dads where rocking nowadays. Even my dad wore it. It's like they are completing for the shiniest scalp or something.
Dele who looked older was just like his father but with, you know longer hair. But he was actually smiling a real genuine smile which lit up his face.
The younger girl, Laide had her hair up in two pigtails, her front teeth missing with largest grin I had ever seen on a human. Reminds me of the Joker, in a good way.
The other boy Ian, looked a bit younger than Laide who was seated next to him. He had on a baseball cap with a superman logo on the front. Good choice I must say. And wore a very mischievous smirk.
Then there was Tunde I wasn't even going to go in his matter because he looked amazing if only I could show Dubem this picture, she would swoon right off her socks.
"Stop hogging the phone!" Gbemi yelled straight into my ear breaking my train of thoughts, jacking the phone from my hands.
"Hey! Can't you ask politely again?"
"Whatever....omo this people are fine oh." Gbemi smiled with that glint in her eye.
"Lemme see." Bukie said poking her face into the screen.
"Wow!" She exclaimed and they looked at each other probably calling dibs on Tunde.
"They are coming to your Aunty Funke's place too." Mum said proudly. "So you guys will make new friends."
Not the type of friends that my mum was thinking about that was in their heads definitely. It cannot be argued at all. This girls are nut cases.
"Mummy you can have your phone back."
Bukie handed mum the phone which she collected then snorted. "They look so well behaved unlike you lot."
"Haba, Mummy!"
"Mummy no na!"
"Mummy naa..."
"Abegi go and wash plates joor and sleep early, we are leaving tomorrow by six." She eyed us hissing. "Oya leave me alone!"
Tunji finally looked up from his toy and burst into giggles.
We all walked to the kitchen in shame.
Just imagine that small rat,Tunji was laughing at us. No cookies for him for a week.
Before Gbemi started washed she turned to me was that her smile and said, "I call dibs."••
