You know what about being an adult really sucks?
Buying groceries.
It was such a bore but you had to do it to survive.
You couldn't just live off of Chinese take away and pizza, you occasionally have to cook or else you'll die of consuming too many carbs.
I walked down the snacks aisle, looking for a certain type of snack I was craving. Luckily there was one left. Oh the joy.
I quickly rushed over but the second I laid my hands on the delicious bag of fat, someone else seemed to have the same idea.
"I was here first." The person said.
You've got to be kidding me, I recognised his voice straight away.
"You again?" I asked with one hand on the bag and the other on my hip.
"Yes, me again. It's funny that we keep bumping into each other." He smiled.
"Yes funny." I was seriously craving these snacks, not to mention I was on my period so it was not the time to try and joke with me.
"I don't get why you hate me so much." He looked a little hurt and that look just softened me up.
"I don't hate you." I sighed. "I'm sorry, I'm usually like this anyways, you can ask my friends, I'm not particularly friendly unless I'm doing my job. You can have this." I let go of the bag but he placed it in my basket.
"No, you were right, you were here first." He smiled, this time his smile warmed my heart.
"So you're doing the weekly shop too?" I asked. I decided to be friendly since shopping was a lonely pastime.
"Yeah I guess you could say that."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm actually leaving town for a while so I need to stock up for the trip."
"Oh cool, where are you off to?" I was genuinely curious, this was the most information I had ever gotten out of him.
"I'm going to a bit of everywhere."
"Nice, are you going by yourself or with friends?"
"A couple of my close friends, I guess you could call it a world tour." The way he said it sounded like he meant it in another way but I didn't want to continue questioning him. "Enough about me, what about you? Have any plans for the future?"
"I'm just going to continue doing my job and we'll see where life takes us."
"I like that outlook on life."
We were lining up to pay and I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed, if what he said was true, I probably wouldn't be able to bump into him for a while.
"Well it was nice seeing you again I guess." He said.
We stood outside the store for a while, not really knowing how to part ways.
Funny how last time I couldn't wait to get away from him but this time I didn't really want to leave.
"Yeah, it was..."
"Could I..." We both started.
"You can speak." I offered.
"Ladies first."
"Men just before." I joked.
"Could I get your number?" He asked. Luckily it was exactly was I was going to ask, thank goodness he saved me the embarrassment.
