"What should I wear?" Jack said as he paced around our hotel room.
"Just be comfortable, jeans and a t shirt are always safe."
"Black jeans? Blue jeans? If blue, navy or light blue? What colour t shirt? Black? White?"
"Wear what you'd wear on a day out with the boys." I tried to calm him down but I had never seen him so nervous.
"Okay. But I usually wear all black and it's hot."
"Wear navy jeans, no rips, and a white t shirt." I said to stop his pacing.
"Okay good plan. What shoes?"
"Just wear your adidas."
"Okay. I'm calm."
"I don't know why you're so nervous. Once my grandparents see you, they'll understand why I like you okay?"
"Fine."
The entire way to my Grandparents' house, he was shaking his leg.
We eventually arrived after being stuck in traffic for an hour and a half.
"Suzy!" I heard my grandma call out from her house.
"Grandma!" I ran to her so she didn't have to walk out too far. I hugged the little Chinese woman and I realised just how much I missed him.
"You look amazing!" She said as she pulled away and looked me up and down. "Have you lost weight? That's not good, this is why you should live with us here. I'll feed you very well. So this is Jackson?" She said and looked at him.
"Hello." Jack bowed politely. "It's very nice to meet you."
"Oh your Chinese is a little better than I thought it was going to be." She said with surprise and nodded in approval.
"Thank you." He kept bowing and I couldn't help but laugh.
"He's very handsome without all the makeup." My grandma 'whispered' to me.
"Suzy? Is that you?"
"Grandpa!" He was squinting to see me and smiled with his limited teeth.
I walked to him and hugged him.
"You are very tall!" He said. "Now where's this boyfriend?"
"Here I am sir." He bowed again.
"Hmm." I could see my grandpa really analysing him.
"Be nice please." I said and tugged on his arm.
"We'll see. Come in."
We sat down in their living room and I caught up with what has been happening in their lives.
I was their only grandchild so I always felt guilty every time I came back because I know I should visit more.
"So you're English?" My grandpa said with his arms crossed rocking in his rocking chair.
"Actually I'm American, I moved to England to pursue a music career but my parents are still in America."
The more he spoke in Chinese, the more surprised I got. He was actually very good at the language.
"Interesting."
"Here's some watermelon I got prepared for you." My grandma entered the room with a plate much too big for her to carry.
"Let me." Jack said and took the plate from her.
I couldn't hold back my joy as he did exactly what I wanted him to do.
