Percy's POV
After losing Annabeth, scraping through high school, and barely getting into Hunter' College, I didn't think life could get much worse. Boy, did I not know the Fates that well.
I walk into campus, barely a week after getting into a fight, only to get into another fight, meet Mortal Artemis, and getting cursed out in Greek. And that was barely after my first class of the day.
After finally getting her to walk into the office to ask for her schedule, I sat outside and waited, wondering where my life went to absolute schist. Well, I guess it started when I almost destroyed half of camp.
I was walking down to the beach, barely holding back a smile. Today's the day, I thought excitedly. See, I had been busy with Aphrodite to try and plan out the perfect proposal for Annabeth. Sure, she wasn't exactly someone materialistic, but she did appreciate it every now and then.
Anyways, I was walking there, and I didn't see her. Or anyone, for that matter. Weird, maybe she's busy, I thought. I'll just wait right here for her.
And so, I waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Long after the sun touched the horizon, I sat on the beach, smiling sadly and tear trails evident on my face. Finally, I saw a head of blonde hair run over to me, worry prominent in her thundercloud grey eyes.
"Percy," she asked, "what are you doing here?" Concern lined her eyes, but I just stared back emotionless. "I left a note for you on your cabin bed that told you where I was and why," I responded, before taking a long yawn.
After two minutes of yawning, I heard her say, "There wasn't a note Percy." I looked at her, analyzing every detail of her to make sure she was honest.
She wasn't.
"Oh really," I said sarcastically, "so if I go over to your cabin and check, it won't be where I left it?" After a moment of surprise showed itself in her eyes, she answered. "I'm positive."
"So," I spat, trying hard to sound calculating, "you'd bet our entire relationship on that?" A smirk showed itself, which surprised me, and it said, "Go ahead and check. I promise I didn't get one."
After storming over to her cabin, I took the door off of it's hinges and threw her pillows onto the floor. Between the pillows and the sheets, right where I left it, was a folded up note. I turned around and showed it to her, noticing fear in her eyes. "Dear Annabeth," I read, tears threatening to fall, "Can you meet me at the beach in the afternoon? I need to ask you something important. Love," I muttered, allowing the tears to fall, "Your Seaweed Brain."
"I was out of camp today." She blurted out, startling some of her cabinmates awake. I grabbed her wrist and took her outside, hoping she wouldn't cause more of a ruckus. "What for?" I growled, letting myself get angry. "I was...out with Rachel. Going over some stuff for college," she said.
"Okay," I answered, pretending to be satisfied with that answer. She sighed in relief and began walking into her cabin. Before she got far, I snatched her phone from her back pocket and bolted towards the woods, ignoring the cries of surprise or the loud squaking of the night harpies.
I plopped down behind a tree, not caring who got mad at me for it, and opened her phone. Surprise surprise, it had a lock. But, it was her birthday, so it wasn't too much trouble to get through. Browsing through her messages, I found a thread with some guy named Darrell.
D- "Hey babe, want to hang out today?" 10:50 a.m.
A- "Sure, I don't have plans for today." 10:51 a.m.
D- "I was thinking maybe we could go see a movie at the theatre over near school." 10:53 a.m.
A- "Sure, when do you want to meet?" 10:56 a.m.
D- "I was thinking maybe at 2. There's one I've wanted to see that shows then." 10:57 a.m.
A- "Alright. Sounds like a date. See you then." 10:58 a.m.
D- "Alrighty. See you then baby!" 11:00 a.m.
By then, I was crying too much to read the rest. 'Baby'? Really? What the hell?? I felt someone behind me, so I surged up and pinned them against the tree. After taking a look into her grey eyes, I only pushed her farther into the bark. "What do you want, Chase?" I snarled, making sure to hide the phone.
"M-my phone," she gasped, "a-and my b-breath." I let go and let her fall to the floor. While she was gasping for air, I threw the phone in her lap, leaving it open to the messages. I also threw a velvet box at her from my pocket, tears falling onto it. "Keep it," I said emotionlessly. "Maybe Darrell could use it for when he wants to. We're done, Athenian. Don't talk to me again."
Before she got a chance to explain, I stormed off to my cabin, nearly breaking one of the entryway pillars on the way in. I threw myself onto my bed and cried, allowing all of my emotions to flow out as one. Anger.
I felt slight tremors and heard powerful winds, but fell asleep before much else. Waking up, I could see my roof sagging, which gave me huge incentive to get out of there quickly. But, outside wasn't much better than inside.
Most of the cabins were sagging, or had collapsed completely. I glanced at the farm, and it had been razed, shrubs and vines scattered everywhere. A glance to the forest made me gasp.
The section of it closest to the camps was destroyed, trees torn away from their roots. I stared, wondering what I had done. Then, I had the great idea to turn around, only to be welcomed with the scariest thing I'd seen that morning.
Poseidon's cabin, the one cabin I truly belonged in, collapsed right in front of me. I fell to my knees, ignoring the rubble flying at me, and cried. Bawling my eyes out, I felt a strong grasp over my shoulder. It was none other than my centaur teacher, Chiron.
"Perseus," he said seriously, "we need to talk." He dragged me to the Big House, where I was interrogated for three hours into fessing up to destroying half the camp. Before explaining why or how, Chrion, my only real father figure, gave me the boot and sent me on my merry way to gods know where.
From there, I made my way to my mom's apartment, where I was met with hugs and inky kisses from my mother. I asked to stay there for the year, which surprised her. After explaining why, she too had tears in her eyes. Nevertheless, she took me in and I got my old room back. From there, oh dear gods, it went downhill fast.
Long story short, I almost flunked high school and barely scraped my way into college, only go get into a fight the first week there. Then, Artemis showed up, and life got even worse for me. That, however, is going to be for her to tell.
