Keep him talking, Scarlett. Keep him talking. His cheeks were filled with air, his face red and sweaty. "You can't do things like this, you can't!" I tried my best to take deep breaths and calm myself in this unlikely situation. "I can do what I like."
"No, you cant. You can't treat people like they're toys, like they're objects you can do what you want with!"
He didn't answer. He just kept pushing my body deeper into the dirt. "You won't get away with this. Someone will know, you'll get life in prison!"
He laughed mockingly: "do you think I care about prison? Do you think I haven't thought about it? I'm going to hell." I couldn't argue with that, it was definitely true. "How would Amy feel about this?"
"She doesn't even know. She thinks I just scared you off."
"Do you think she's stupid? She would know eventually!"
"Don't call her that, don't you dare!"
"If you care so much about her, why can't you see how it makes me feel when you assault my boyfriend and keep his sister captive?!"
Again he didn't answer. "You treat Rose like the dirt you walk on! This is going to affect her for the rest of her life! How can you live with yourself?"
He began to get angry again. After two moments of silence, he finally spoke. "Enough talking. Goodnight Scarlett." He took a hold of my top and took his weight off of me as he picked me up. I closed my eyes as I was standing parallel with the edge. "I love you Kellin, I love you so much." I whispered to the air, half dreaming that the wind would carry my words to him. Time slowed, a single tear ran down my cold cheek.
"Aaaggghh." He moaned. The sound was piercing. I opened my eyes. The man fell away from me and crouched down to the ground. I edged myself around cautiously. "You dropped your knife."
"Kellin!" I sobbed, taking my hands to my face to wipe my tears. "You-you found me." I didn't move, I couldn't. Kellin paced warily towards me taking my hand. He pulled me swiftly away from the edge, taking me in his arms. His tears wetted my face as he pressed his lips to mine. We didn't speak as he held me with the strength of a clamp into his chest. "I thought I'd never see you again." I weeped into his shoulder. "I knew i'd see you again." He kissed my hair.
"How touching." Everything after that happened so quickly. I was pulled backwards. The ground beneath my feet disappeared. Putting my hands out I grabbed the man by the arm, pulling him with me.
"Scarlett!" Kellin wailed. I found myself holding onto the edge, being dragged down by the man who was hanging from my feet. Kellin grabbed my hands as the ground beneath my fingers crumbled away. I screamed as my arm bent out of place. The pain was searing through my body like a deadly poison. All strength in my hands was gone. "Hold on Scar! Hold on!" The sweat on our hands was making me slip. I tried to shake him off but he was holding onto me like a snake. "Pull me back! Pull me back!" Robert and Molly! "Pass... Me the ...knife." My voice was strained. "What?"
"It's my only chance." I sobbed. He did. "Let one of my hands go. Kellin please just do it."
"You'll fall!"
"Just hold onto me."
"Scar my hand! It's slipping!"
"Kellin do it!"
He shook his head then finally did it, I have one chance. I took the knife in my hand and aimed downwards. Letting my fingers go, the knife slipped from my hands, falling down, down. It fell. Straight into his shoulder blade. He released his hold on me and I watched as he spiralled silently down, crashing into stone ledges, before he finally splashed into the inky, sombre ocean. I realised that I stopped breathing. There was no sound. No temperature. No feeling. Everything was a blur.
The last thing I could recall was lying in Kellins arms. Looking up at the faces of the people I loved most in this world. Their amorous smiles, their watery, gleaming eyes looking down at me. It was all over. This hell was over. Forever. Life itself rushed back into me. I felt love again. All of the darkness inside me diminished as a light so bright coursed through my soul. I knew then that nothing would take away this light inside of me. The next three words Kellin spoke brought me back into the world completely. "I love you."
