Chapter 19
It has been two days since the arrest of Malik's father. We've spent both days, just like the past days, in his house trying to think of something else that could help us. My parents have run out of helpful ideas, so there was nothing else that we could think of but they were looking through old cases and asking their friends who are lawyers, too, to see if they could gather anything helpful.
I look over at Malik, as we are currently sitting in the living room. Since he was talking to the lawyers a lot more now, he had gotten his hands on a copy of the camera surveillance footage, something he had not been able to see before.
"I swear, whoever tampered with them did a fucking good job", Louis says squinting his eyes at the TV.
"Seriously", Harry agrees.
"I know but I keep thinking there has to be something. Anything", Malik says as we stare at the TV intently.
"Wait! Pause!", Sophia yells standing up.
"You saw that, too?", I say getting up and taking the remote from Malik's hands.
"What? What is it?", Malik asks standing up, too with hope in his voice.
"Right where the clip jumps to another, there's a man. You can barely see it because the clip goes by so fast but there's definitely a man right there", Sophia says.
I rewind the video, pause and slow forward it.
"Right here, he sticks out from the rest", I say as I stop it.
It was a bit blurry as it was transitioning to the next clip almost immediately but it was just enough to see that it wasn't Malik's father looking at the camera as he's walking off in a hurry. He's the only person that appears in the clip, making him stand out from all the other people that we've seen in the recordings.
"He looks very out of place from the other workers and he's looking up at the camera as if he's thinking "Shit, there's a camera". This has to be the guy that did it", Louis says as we all stare at the man.
"I don't know how the hell they didn't see this. Good catch girls. I'm going to send a picture to the lawyers to tell them we found something that might help", Malik says as he takes a picture of it with his phone.
"I'm trying to see if he seems familiar but I never seen this guy's face", Harry says shaking his head.
"Well, even if we don't know him, maybe we can get pictures of him out, that he's wanted. Maybe if the recording is shown to Malik's father he'll recognize him or something", I suggest.
"True. Unless there's someone else behind it", Louis says.
"Well, this is still something. If the police catch him, he'll have to talk", Malik says putting his phone away, letting out a deep breathe.
"This is one step closer", I tell him, trying to reassure him, he nods.
"Maybe we should continue watching it, see if we find something else", Sophia says taking a seat back on the couch next to Liam.
I nod my head and press play.

We didn't find anything else in the recordings, except for that two second clip of the man walking away. The picture that Malik sent the lawyers made them immediately arrive first thing in the morning the next day. They were surprised at our discovery and had even thanked us. We in return asked if we could help in any other way or just be filled in with what their evidence is so far so we can help them somehow.
