Finalmente! Finally!
This is the fourteenth lesson and NOW we start learning how to talk about ourselves? Let me quickly explain why:
1. You need to know how to read Italian before learning any sentences.
2. It is necessary to have a basic knowledge of vocabulary beforehand (articles, nouns, numbers).
3. You need to know how make basic sentences.
ALL of which we've already seen!
****************************
Meeting people who speak a different language can be really fun! Trying to talk to them by saying simple things can be just as fun but not always easy.
You may want to start by stating your name, age and where you live which we've already covered. But what about hobbies, family, likes and dislikes?
That's what we will be doing NOW!
************************
Let's elaborate on this:
Buongiorno! Mi chiamo Alex e ho diciassette anni. Abito a Como però vengo da Inghilterra.
Maybe too easy... but now I'm going to teach you a couple more useful expressions to help introduce yourself better:
Lui/Lei si chiama-He/She is called (His/Her name is)
Vivo con-I live with (new verb: vivere-to live) Vivo, vivi, vive, viviamo, vivete, VIVono.
Con lui/lei-With him/her
Il mio/La mia-My (masc.), My (fem.).
La mia famiglia-My family
So, let's write a short paragraph about ourselves-just add your own information where necessary. Translate it and PM me with it as part of your homework!
Buongiorno! Mi chiamo Alex e ho diciassette anni. Abito a Como però vengo da Inghilterra.
Add your famiglia:
Ho un fratellino. Si chiama Luca e ha tredici anni. Vivo con lui e con la mia famiglia.
Il mio papa si chiama Ivan e ha trent'anni. La mia mamma si chiama Anna e ha ventinove anni.
Mi piace leggere e scrivere.
Remember to translate that then send it to me!
More simple expressions:
Si chiamano...-They are called/Their names are...
Vengo dall'America-I come from America
Vengo dalla Cina-I come from China
I miei-My (Masc. plural) Use this complement alone to indicate your own parents. Example: Questi sono i miei-These are my parents.
If there is more than one element in your description different to the ones in mine, then you may want to say something like this:
Ciao! Mi chiamo Alex e ho diciott'anni. Abito a Londra ma vengo dall'America. Ho due fratelli e una sorella OR Ho due sorelle e un fratello. Si chiamano Elisa, Margherita (Margaret) e il mio fratello si chiama Daniele (Daniel in English).
Vivo con i miei nonni (with my grandparents). Mio nonno si chiama Giovanni (Johnathan) e mia nonna si chiama Elisabetta (Elizabeth). Mi piace ballare e ascoltare la musica. Non mi piace mangiare la verdura (vegetables).
Ho i capelli corti e rossi e sono molto alto.
Translate that, too, then send it to me.
NEW VERB-Ascoltare (to hear/to listen to)
I listen to-io ascolto
You listen to-tu ascolti
He/She listens to-Lui/lei ascolta
We listen to-noi ascoltiamo
You (pl.) listen to-voi ascoltate
They listen to-loro ascoltano (asCOLtano)
Add 'La musica' (MOO-zee-kah) to any one of these persons to get 'I/you/he/we/they listen/s to'.
