Weilà, allora?

Oi, well? (What have you got to tell me?)

:D

In this lesson I want to teach you how to make the -ing form, perhaps one of the most important you'll ever learn.

Dialogo:

Marco: Ciao Luca!

Luca: We, Marco. Come va?

Marco: Bene, dai. Come sono andate le vacanze?

Luca: Benissimo, grazie! A te?

Marco: Sinceramente non ho fatto niente...cosa stai facendo?

Luca: Sto studiando.

Marco: Ah, che cosa?

Luca: Matematica. Ho la verifica fra un'ora!

Marco: Ah, caspita! Buona fortuna allora!

Luca: Grazie mille. Stammi bene.

'Memorize this by heart.'

-----------------

How much did you get? I hope you understood at least half of it!

New expressions:

Come sono andate le vacanze? How did your holidays go?

BeNIssimo! Great!

A te? To you? (In this case, 'how did they go for you?")

Sinceramente... Honestly...

Cosa stai facendo? What are you doing?

Sto studiando. I'm studying.

Che cosa? What?

Ho la verifica. I have a test.

Fra un'ora. In an hour.

CASpita! Goodness!

Buona...allora! Good luck then!

Stammi bene. Take care.

The '-ing' form in Italian

In Italian we often ask others things and reply with the '-ing' from, such as 'What are you playing?" 'I'm working" etc.

How it works + 'stare'

Unlike English in which we tend to use 'to be'+'-ing form of verb', in Italian you conjugate the verb 'stare'+-the 'ndo form' of a verb.

Stare means 'to stay/remain/be doing' and is conjugated as follows:

Sto

Stai

Sta

Stiamo
