Very similar to the conditional tense, so do not get confused with double consonants etc!
The future tense is (obviously) meant to indicate what will happen in the future, be it near or far ahead.
As you know, you can use the present tense to say something will happen later on today or next week, by using an adverbial phrase like next week, etc.
La settimana prossima vado dal dottore-I'm going to the doctor's next week.
But what about 'will'?
In Italian there is no 'will' but there is a way of transforming each verb into its future form by adding and removing letters, just like the subjunctive and conditional.
Vediamo alcuni esempi!
Amare-to love
amerò
amerai
amerà
ameremo
amerete
ameranno
The endings are always going to be pronounced: ameRO', ameRAI, ameRA', ameREmo, ameREte and ameRANno.
Remove -are and add those final endings (desinenze-'endings' in grammatical terms).
Fare-to do
Farò
Farai
Farà
Faremo
Farete
Faranno
The difference between the future and the conditional in terms of endings is the fact that the first person plural (noi-we), has two m's in the conditional (ameremmo-we would love), whereas it has only one in the future (ameremo-we will love). Do NOT get these two confused like I used to. ( D: )
Esempi:
Domani vado a fare la spesa-Tomorrow I'm going to do some shopping (fare la spesa-do shopping, ir de compras in Spanish)
OR
Domani andrò a fare la spesa-I will go to do shopping
or even
Domani farò la spesa-I will do shopping, without 'andare'.
Altri verbi:
Mangiare-mangerò, mangerai, mangerà, mangeremo, mangerete, mangeranno.
