It was my first day working with Kim Seokjin. I walked into his office nervously and greeted him.
"Y/N, take a seat." He smiled at me as I sat down. "Okay, so I haven't decided which restaurant you will be working at just yet. Today, I'll just be taking you to your new house."
"I'm sorry, but what's my total debt?"
"$1 050 900."
"How do you have so much money?" He shrugged smugly.
"I guess I got lucky." He chuckled as he stood up. "Follow me. I'll show you your new home." He lead me to his car and held the door open for me as I climbed into his expensive sports car.
"How did you become CEO?" I asked curiously.
"Hm?"
"You weren't the founder of this business, right? How did you become CEO?"
"I worked my way up."
"Wow.. Impressive." I nodded in approval. He drove me to a prestigious neighbourhood and walked me into a large, expensive house.
I looked around in awe. "I'm going to have to work for you for a long time, aren't I?"
"Yes, you are!" He laughed.
"I've been wondering, why did you want me to work for you anyway?"
"Your creativity is exceptional. I need someone like you in my business."
"Did you really need to go this far though? I would have been happy to work for you even without all this."
"First of all, all this gives me a better chance. Second, I felt bad for you." He rubbed the back of his head and avoided eye contact.
"Felt bad for me?" I repeated, glancing back at him.
"You didn't have a house, you didn't have a proper phone and... When's the last time you've seen your parents?" I froze and looked down at my feet, my back facing him. "I recognise you. Your real name is Y/O/N (Your original name). You went missing 9 years ago." He said softly. Tears formed in my eyes as I recognised the name I had forgotten so long ago. 'There's that pathetic name...'
"You should go see your parents, I'll take you there." He offered, but I shook my head.
"Not yet. I'm still useless to them." I said shakily as I wiped my tears.
"Wait- Are you crying?"
"No, I'm fine." I blinked back the tears and forced a smile on my face as I continued walking. "So how long will I be paying off my debt?" I steadied my voice as I changed the subject.
"... I-I'm not sure." He was clearly flustered. "How about a year?"
"Sure." I smiled back at him as if nothing had happened.
"Oh, do you know how to drive?" I stop walking and nodded in confusion. "Good. Your car is in the garage."
"My car?" He forced a smile as he led me to the garage. There sat a luxurious Porsche. "Mr Kim! Why did you buy me a car?!"
"You need a car to get to work every day."
"Yeah, but I'm fine with a second hand Toyota. Come on, this is way too much!"
"Well, I already paid for it so you may as well enjoy it." He chuckled.
"I guess... I wish my parents were able to enjoy this..." I mumbled. "Am I allowed to call my parents here? Wait- no, not yet." I shook my head and sighed. "I still don't have enough money for them."
"Y/O/N..."
"Y/N. My name is Y/N."
"But-"
"I've always hated that name." I growled. "It's pathetic and disgusting." I walked past him, not able to maintain my smile. He followed me in silence as I continued to explore the house. As we walked in silence, a question ate away at me, making me eventually give in. A sigh escaped my lips as I spun around, making Kim Seokjin abruptly stop in surprise.
"How did you recognise me?" I finally asked.
"Are you kidding me?" He chuckled. "You really don't know?"
"Am I supposed to?" I tilted my head slightly in confusion. He shook his head and chuckled before waving his hand dismissively and walking past me. "Did we know each other?"
"Apparently you didn't know me." He shrugged. "I knew you though." My eyes widened.
"You.. You knew me? When?" Suddenly, his phone started ringing.
"Years ago." He said with a slight smirk before picking up the call and leaving the room. Thoughts were racing through my head as I tried to figure out when he could have met me. I had stood there without flinching, completely absorbed in my thoughts that I hadn't realised how long it had been.
"Um.. Y/N. You haven't even moved." Kim Seokjin laughed. I spun around to find him looking down at me in confusion and judgement.
"Well- I... You said we met years ago. When could we have possibly met?"
"I never said we met. Anyway, I have to leave now. Get comfortable and make yourself at home!" He smiled as he walked away, leaving my curiosity unsatisfied. I sighed and dragged myself to the bedroom before flopping down onto the mattress. I called Jaeun Unnie since I promised to keep in touch. She was like a mother to me so there was no way I wouldn't call her every day.
