Kiera found Gray in his room, watching a movie on his computer. His mother had let her in, telling her that Gray had been in his room in two days. She was standing at his doorframe, waiting for an invitation.
Gray looked up and waved a hand. She sat at the edge of his bed, holding his letter in her palm.
"Thanks for this."
"You know why I did it, don't you? You've known that I'm a hurricane. You've always known that."
"I just thought you changed."
"I did after you started to hate me. I was weird, and I wanted everyone to love me. There used to be so much stuff here. I was a kleptomaniac." He pulled a necklace out of one of his bedside drawers. "I stole this one especially for you."
Gray poured it into her palm and she held it. It was made of gold, embroidered with different colored gems to create a heart. She opened it, and inside was the words:
For the beauty inside of you.

And another step was crossed off her list.
