Leaning against the outside table as I was sweating up a storm. Placing the pool net beside me. I didn't realize how much work the pool would be. Sitting down as I looked over at the mowed lawn, the weeded garden with the weeds piled high. Earlier I found a fire pit so maybe we could burn them?
Feeling proud of myself before I heard a knock at the front door. Standing up curious as I walked through the kitchen, towards the front door. Seeing three figures standing outside there. Clearing my throat knowing I had a bit of talking to do.
Opening the door to be greeted with a tall woman, her hair red and virant. It tucked away in a bun except for a few strands flying free, holding a basket in her arms. Next to her would be whom I can only assume is her husband. He was tall, broad but held a kind smile. Beside him was a blonde haired teenager who went from looking unimpressed to standing up straight. Giving them a smile.
"Hello?" Feeling my voice scratch as the redhead smiled and immediately spoke up.
"Hello! We are your neighbours over there," She pointed to the house to our left. A large a beautifully looking modern one. "We just saw you outside working and thought that this would be a good time to introduce ourselves." Her bubbly personality made me nervous.
"Thank you-" Feeling my thank you being cut off from a scratch from my lungs as I gave a slight cough. "I'm still recovering." I croaked it out as I pointed to the fresh scar on my neck as I saw their eyes flash with something.
"I'm sorry sweetheart. Well we can come back later if you would like. Do the official greeting, unless your parents are home..?" Shaking my head no as I Saw her noisy eyes trying to peer in. "Okay, we got you this little welcome to the town gift. Nothing special." Giving her a smile before She passed it to me. Saying thank you as they left, without much of a fuss.
Closing the door and placing it on the kitchen counter before heading back outside. Looking around before grabbing the pool net and fishing out the last bit of leaves. Just leaving the stuff that the pump has to clean. Leaving me to place chlorine stuff in it. Opening the pool filter and pulling out the leaves that were sucked in before switching it on and placing a puck in the bucket like thing. Putting away the tools and lawn equipment into the shed.
Walking inside to grab the broom and sweeping the concrete clean, shifting the glass table and chairs around while moving the lounge chair out of my way. Appreciating my own efforts as I Stepped back and looked at the back yard. Feeling like this would be a great place to read my book.
Placing the broom back into the house before walking up to my room and grabbing my book. Checking my phone as my messages were empty. Placing it on the kitchen counter as I grabbed a glass of water. Heading out onto the lounge chair to relax. Seeing the sun had started to just set, giving everything a dust setting. Making me enjoy this, that much more.
Feeling the chapter roam by as I finally heard the sound of our beat up car come home. Closing the book before hearing my dad's voice boom through the house. "Pizza is here! God I hope you want cheesy goodness." Hearing his voice fade as his attention came to the back door. "Nova?!" His voice was filled with concern before he got to the back door and slowly walked outside. His jaw slack as he looked around. Seeing the faint watery look in his eyes before he walked over and gave me a hug.
"Thank you." Hearing his voice strain as I smile and hugged him back.
"Anything for you dad." It was rough coming out but I still managed it.
"okay, well I guess we both deserve this cheese pizza then!" Hearing him laugh before placing it down on the glass table outside and grab a slice. Still admiring the outside.
