Feeling my head sting and my body was sweating. Jerking alert when I remembered what happened but feeling myself completely confused. I was in my room, feeling my stomach knot up as I slowly got up. Was my dad home? Did I just have a extremely lucid dream? I don't remember falling asleep and that was really messed up thing to dream about.
Walking downstairs as the scent of pork chops hit my nose. Feeling my skin tingle as I drew closer. Peaking around the corner as my dad was simply sitting at the kitchen table, blanking at the table. Seeing his eyes flicked to mine surprised before smiling at me. Having an uneasy feeling in my stomach as his eyes looked distant in thought.
"Welcome sleepy head," I saw him get up and walk towards me before placing his hand on my head. His hand was cool to the touch but I heard him tsk his tongue. "You still have a little fever but it should hopefully go down soon."
"I had the strangest dream..." Feeling my voice scratch as it came out. Stifling a cough as my Dad gave me a concerned look.
"I can only imagine, you suddenly got sick, I came home to see you vomiting in the washroom. You were burning up." I watched as he guided me to the kitchen table. Nodding as I tried to remember that part. I guess I was severely out of it then. I guess he felt my uneasiness to his answer so he continued. "The doctor said that you had a small infection in your throat. It should be clearing up now. You had to be put on a drip." Looking down at my bare arm and seeing a bruised forearm. Biting on my lip, I never felt this. "Idiots couldn't find your damn vein and kept missing." I heard him force a laugh before I faked a smile at him, just nodding.
"How long has I been out for?" Thinking as I drummed my nail on the table. Realizing how raw they were and stopping. I could see him trying to avoid my eyes suddenly. As if sensing my discomfort he stood up and occupied with the food. Pulling the tray out of the oven as the smell of food made my stomach rumble.
"It's been a while. There was a time where we didn't know if you'd come back.." I saw something flash through his eyes. Hearing him clear his throat. "It's been just over two weeks." I felt like a bombshell just dropped on me. My heart sank. Thinking to myself If my cancer was back, this could probably have caused it. As if sensing my thoughts he spoke up. "No, don't worry we checked for it. After tests, a induced coma and antibiotics they had decided there was anything else they could do and they just let the infection heal and released you home."
Feeling myself suddenly go cold as I stared outside while biting my lip. That long? Well there goes my summer break. Seeing a plate being put in front of me, filled with a slice of pork chops, rice and some green beans. Mindlessly thanking him as I slowly started eating. Feeling the food hit my stomach hard. As if I hadn't eating in ages.
"After dinner, did you want to go school supply shopping?" Nodding as I tried to place the day. "You don't have to go back until Monday, Skip tomorrow and relax, build your strength back up." I could see him edging me to take a break but I felt restless right now.
"Monday it is." As much as I love school, I think I was still sick and needed to recover. We ate in silence as I would see him occasionally go into deep thinking before noticing me watching him. He ended up eating his food quickly before mumbling something about needing to make a phone call. I sat there biting my lip while I felt the knot in my stomach grow. Something wasn't right.
