Damned if I didn't try and be everywhere. I was  watching the kid while supervising fights. I kept sneaking off, checking on Jimbo. I finally had Derrick keep an eye on Rick.

Eddie spelled me with the fights and checking in on Jimbo. Eddie finally told me Jimbo was sleeping, probably from whatever Doc had given him.

I managed to have a private talk with Doc before he left. He told me he'd put in a prescription for something mild and something stronger that might help Jimbo. Doc was worried about the way Jimbo's heart was racing. Seriously concerned. I thanked him. Doc was a good guy. I don't know where Jimbo had found him, but he was as concerned with the big guy as I was.

I finally went in to wake Jimbo up. I hated doing it because I had a feeling he hadn't had a good sleep in a while. It took a sec, then suddenly its like he just startled awake, actually jumping back a bit.

"Damn man, no caffeine for you," I kidded.

He gives me this apologetic smile, and just crouches for awhile. I watched while his breathing steadied.

"Don't tell me you're all right. Doc's gonna put in a few prescriptions for you, he said something mild and something stronger. You better damn pick them up and use them," I growled, "cause you're heart ain't gonna take too much pounding outta your chest like that."

"I'm fine."

"Bullshit!"

We had a stare-off for a sec. It didn't last long before he dropped his head. It physically hurt me to see him act so beaten.

"I'm just worried about you, bro," I told him gently. "Anyway, fights are done, got the kid downstairs."

He didn't look up as he followed me down the stairs to where Derrick and the kid were cleaning up.

"Derrick." I motioned him out.

It was just the three of us. I know the kid had asked for a private meeting, but I wasn't going anywhere. I was frigging tired of not getting any answers. Jimbo was staying by the stairs, staring as if mesmerized by the kid.

"Mac said you wanted to meet," Jimbo finally got out. "Why?"

"Mac, can you make sure no one is at the top of the stairs?"

It was a strange request since the only other person here was Derrick, but what the hell, I decided to play along.

I heard Jimbo say something and then a thump when I was three quarters of the way up. Fast as I spun around all I caught was the kid pulling Jimbo to his feet.

Jimbo got to his feet shakily, head bowed down. I headed back down, feeling extremely concerned about Jimbo.

"Stop it," I heard the kid hiss to Jimbo.

Jimbo's head jerked up.

"I just wanted to say hi. I figured the other bike out there was yours. Wanted to know if you wanted to talk shop," the kid said nervously.

I know I was glaring at the kid. A chat about bikes my ass! I didn't believe for a second the kid had made such a big deal over meeting Jimbo to chat about a bike.
