Chapter 3
Anka stood in the kitchen of her small house. Her only son, Deyan was looking out the open door for Nadia. Anka often wondered why Deyan worried about Nadia so much. She was a lot older than him, and even stronger despite her being a woman.
"She will be back soon Deyan, the walk to the well is a long one. Come back in the house and shut the door, you're letting the cold air in!" Anka shouted out at him. When he ignored her, she angrily picked up her skirts and went to the door.
"Deyan when I tell you to do something you do it!' She said and grasped onto his shoulder lightly.
"Mother why are all those people crying?" Deyan asked sweetly. Anka let her hand drop from Deyan's shoulder and lifted her head out of the door.
"I don't see anyone Deyan now come back inside." Anka said tugging at his shoulder but Deyan continued to resist.
"Mother you're not looking! Turn your head and should see them, they are crying over something!" Deyan exclaimed. Anka angrily stepped outside the house and looked to the left. Oh no. There was people crying but not over something, over someone. Worry rippling through her she ran out of the house.
"Where are you going?" Deyan shouted after her. Anka stopped in her tracks and turned back to Deyan.
"Stay here Deyan and lock the door. Don't let anybody in!" Anka said smiling as calmly as she could even though inside she was crying.
"Yes Mother." Deyan said and shut the door slowly his beautiful eyes looking constantly at Anka. Once he had shut the door, Anka ran towards the crowd of people.
"Who is it? Who is it?" Anka asked over and over but no one replied. "Let me through!" She said and pushed through everybody until she reached the body.
"Barron? No, it can't be Barron!" Anka exclaimed then lifted her head from the mangled corpse to look for Marin. He would be so devastated, she thought.
"Has anybody seen Marin?" Anka shouted to anybody who would answer.
"He just left with Nadia." Said a man's voice but she couldn't see who.
"Where did they go?" Anka exclaimed.
"Into the forest." Replied the voice. Pushing her way back out of the crowd, Anka walked quickly out towards the forest when she felt a hard, mans grip on her arm. Turning her head around she saw a large, grim man staring down at her.
"Hello Anka" Said the man and before Anka even had a chance to run, scream or ask who he was the man continued to talk. "Your daughter has a lot of explaining to do." Anka's eyes widened as the man placed a piece of cloth on her mouth and she felt the ground slip away from her feet, and and she drifted off into sleep.
