Tobias POV

As I lie in my bed, all I can think about is today.

Sixteenth birthday.

Simulation tests.

Divergent.

I sigh for at least the millionth time today. Why is this decision so hard? I've known what I wanted to do ever since I saw the Dauntless being free.

And that's my final decision.

I am Dauntless.

I'm even more excited then yesterday.

I'm free tonight.

I'm Dauntless tonight.

I jump out of bed, changing into new clothes. But of course, Marcus and Evelyn have to come with. As I'm waiting for them, I notice that Marcus is waiting by the door and Evelyn is getting out of her bedroom. I have a smile plastered on my face even though I hate my parents.

We leave to walk to the big building and I notice Beatrice's house. There are no lights on, so I assume that everyone is still asleep. Her or Caleb aren't changing factions for two years yet so they don't have to come to the Ceremony today.

As we enter the building, we find our seats. However, Marcus has to call out the names of the initiates. Evelyn and I are seated and wait for the Ceremony to begin. I can just feel the adrenaline in my blood as Jeanine Mathews starts to introduce the Ceremony.

"The future belongs to those who know where they belong." Is her last line before she walks off of the small stage and Marcus steps up.

He starts to call out the names of the initiates, in last name alphabetical. I sit and wait until he finishes the 'D' last names. I know I'm next.

"Tobias Eaton." He says and looks up. I stand up from my seat in Abnegation and walk up onto the stage. I grab the small knife from the plate in front of the five bowls and take a deep breath. It feels as if when I cut my hand, pure adrenaline will leak out. I move my hand over the Dauntless burning coals and cut my hand, watching as the copper substance starts to emerge from the cut.

"Dauntless." Marcus says as a drop of my blood sizzles into the coals. The Dauntless spring up from their seats and cheer, clapping and shouting. I walk over, smiling, not looking back at my old faction.

"Welcome!" Someone shouts and stands up from their seat, giving it to me. I can't stop smiling as of now, watching people leave their factions, parents heartbroken, and people choosing their same factions, parents relieved. There are at least 10-20 more Dauntless initiates that join after me.

After the Ceremony, the Dauntless run out first. I'm far up at the front, being fast like a Dauntless should. I'm one of the first to climb the train pillars, reaching the tracks. Everyone lines up along the tracks and stays quiet. You can then hear the faint whistle of the oncoming train. The whistle of been waiting for ever since I've heard it.

"Come on!" Someone yells and we all start running in the direction the train is going. When it approaches, people start jumping in. I try to find the right opening, where there isn't a lot of people. I find the right place, and grab onto the rail. I swing myself inside and land on my feet, conquering my first Dauntless train entrance.

I look out of the opening and watch the wall in the distance, the fields, and the other faction sections.

I'm glad I left the gray walls where all I had to think about were other people.

Because I'm Dauntless.

And that's exactly where I belong.

I can't wait! I have so many ideas. And hopefully During Four will be a lot longer than this!
