Tobias POV
"Hey, Four!" Zeke calls me over to his table for breakfast and I walk over.
"Sup?" I sit down next to him. Zeke's been my closest friend I've made here. Of course, there's other people but Zeke is my man.
"So, we got top spots for our class." Zeke smirked, "Competition."
"Ha, you say it like it's a challenge." I smirked back and started eating my breakfast.
"Bring it on, Eaton." He was eating too. He rarely called me by my last name, but I seemed to lost in my breakfast to really care.
This cake is the best.
Thank you, whoever made this chocolate cake.
"Any day, Pedrad." I muttered back, but Zeke seemed also to be lost in the glorious matter we call Dauntless chocolate cake.
"Alright initiates, back to training." Amar, I now learned his name, called from above. I stood up, along with Zeke, and we threw our trash away. But I quickly shoved the rest of the cake in my mouth before I threw mine away.
Zeke and I walked to the simulation rooms. We were going to have to get used to this. The fear hallucinations and such.
I wait for a time of such before my name gets called and I walk in the small room with Amar.
"Alright, Four." I sit in the chair and wait until Amar gets the serum needle ready.
"Hold on." Right when he's about to inject it, I stop him. I grab the needle from his hand and out my fingers in the right place before I place it on my neck and inject it myself.
Amar just goes to his computer and that's the last thing I see before I fall into my nightmares.
____________
*after the simulation*It was the same thing. The same thing I usually do.
I'm still sitting in the chair as Amar turns to me.
"You can't beat 'em like that." He says.
"What?" I question.
"Listen." He comes closer, "I know what you are." He whispers.
My breath catches in my throat.
"What are you uh talking about?" I didn't look at him.
"Four." He starts, "I know you're Divergent." He whispers, "And you're dealing with your fears like a Divergent would. You need to conquer them like a Dauntless would."
"What do you mean?" I was still worried about him knowing about me, but I don't get what he means.
"You aren't fixing your fears. You're avoiding them." He explained, "And they can't know you're Divergent." He whispered the last part.
"Oh." Realization.
"Just...think about it. Sleep on it later." He said and I took that as my cue to go. I nodded before walking out and waiting for Zeke to go in and then finish.
You aren't fixing your fears. You're avoiding them.
The words flew through my hard and bounced off of the walls of my brain.
He's right.
If I'm going to become a Dauntless, then I need to start being one now.
I've already forgotten the past.
But now it's up to the present and future.
