Chapter 6: Making Promises

Shadé

We didn't make it to the parade, but we did make it to the concert, which was a very good thing. That meant we didn't have to stand outside in the damn cold.

There were millions of people at this concert as there were many famous artists performing live. Such artists included Miley Cyrus, Mindless Behavior, One Direction, Selena Gomez, and Justin Bieber. There were even children-friendly bands playing such as The Not-Its, The Okee Dokee Brothers, The Jimmies, The Wiggles, and even the cast of Sesame Street performed. But, the best ones were the Doodle-Bops and Yo Gabba Gabba.

Darrell and I didn't want to mix into the crowd, so we decided to sit near the exit door. He and I watched as the twins were clapping and bouncing around joyously. They were even excited enough to sing along, albeit horrendously. I was just happy that they were enjoying themselves.

I was leaned against Darrell's toned chest, while he barricaded me in his arms; his strong arms, at that.

"I never would've known that your little ones had as much energy as the energizer bunny," Darrell said jokingly.

I laughed at both his corny joke and the energy that the twins were displaying.

Although the twins are happy and excited at the moment, they're still skeptical about how they feel about Darrell. After every performance, they'd run back to us from our short distance and hug my legs. But once they realize that a strange man is hugged up behind me, they get defensive and start whining. Just like they're about to do now.

"Here they come," Darrell whispered into my ear, sending pleasurable shivers down my spine.

I felt their little hands wrap around my legs as they fought to bury their faces between my thighs. They yammered and cried as they shoved at one another. I hated it when they fought like this. I honestly just want them to get along.

"HEY," I sternly shouted, catching their attention. They stared at me with red rimmed eyes and cute, pouty faces. "Stop it, you two!"

"They look just like you," Darrell commented, his hold on my waist tightening.

Valencia looked just like me. But Caine, he was a little Vincent...in pampers. They both had brown curly hair, with a natural red tint that shown only in sunlight. They both get it from their dad.

"No, Caine looks like his father," I corrected, crouching down to stroke Caine's tender curls.

I pulled them both into a warm hug, kissing them each on their bubbly cheeks. They returned the favor by giving me two wet, slobbering kisses on either of my cheeks.

"Thank you to everyone who joined us all in this concert in celebration of my one-year old son, Prince Elliot," I heard Rodney's accented voice say. A large screen behind him displayed him from his position on stage. It was meant to help the people in the back of the concert hall to see. Darrell lifted Valencia onto his shoulders as I picked up Caine in my arms so they would be able to see the stage and screen.

"Now presenting, the birthday boys," Rodney cheerfully said as the crowd erupted in a wave of claps and cheers.

My heart pummeled through my chest as I anticipated the next moment. I knew Vincent was coming, and I knew he wouldn't be able to see me from where we were in the back of the concert hall.

He stepped from behind the curtains with his blonde-haired nephew in his arms. They were both dressed in the same dark blue colored suits. The baby, Prince Elliot had a confused look as all of the people began to cheer louder. Elliot definitely resembled Rodney; almost as much as Caine resembled Vincent.
