Sorry for it taking a little longer for me to update, I have 3 other stories that I'm writing so I have to make time for those as well. Thank you to those of you who understand that.
Anyway, enjoy lovelies...
Chapter 31: Outsider
Vincent
I wanted to cry. I wanted to cry so bad, but I hated crying. It made me feel so pathetic. Watching my jet fly off toward the Atlantic and knowing my family was in there pulled a strain on my heart. All I wanted was for her to stay, for them to stay. But her brother just had to get arrested.
I don't want to sound selfish, but dammit I feel that way. I know she loves Ezra, he's her brother. So of course she'd leave me to see what the issue is. I respected that, but I wasn't happy with it.
I went back inside my car and started the engine. With my hand on the steering wheel, I notice the silver-looking ring. I pull the ring off my finger to examine the beauty of every individual diamond within it. But then, the engravment in the interior of the ring catches my attention. I blink twice at the engraved words to see if what I read was true.
Where the hell did she get the money to buy me an 18 karat white gold ring? Maybe she secretly has money, I mean, she has been working at Windsor for damn near two years, as well as her job at the bakery. I'm not sure on what their salary was for the maids, but it couldn't have been minimum wage, not with this ring. It's understandable for me to get her a 24 karat ring, but for her to get me anything over 9 karats, it was... extraordinary.
I put the ring back onto my finger, kiss my right hand's finger tips and press them against the ring. I wasn't going to take any chances in putting my lips to the ring and getting them stuck.
I sighed as I turned on my car and drove back to Windsor, all the while, thinking of my future with her.

"You proposed to her!?"
Lance was obviously going to be the first person to know about my engagement to Shadé.
"We proposed to one another," I corrected, affectionately glancing at my ring, as if it represented her presence. I looked back at Lance to see a proud smile on his face.
"I'm proud of you. I hope I could live to see my children get married," he said.
"Uncle Lance! Don't say things like that. My dad said the same thing and look at him now. He isn't going to see me get married, just like he said. Don't jinx yourself, please," I said concernedly.
"I apologize, Vincent... but I'm still happy for you," he sighed within a laugh. "England's going to have a beautiful black Queen," he said.
"Yeah. I don't think I can wait until mourning season is over... I don't even think I can wait until she comes back," I said, avoiding his eyes.
"Comes back? Where did she go," he asked. How could I forget, I haven't told him about her leaving. I spent all afternoon with her and the twins. Half of was spent playing with them and the other, after they went to sleep, was spent with us talking... about anything, everything, and nothing. It was so nostalgic, to just have her in my bed, just talking to her.
"She went back to New York," I replied, sitting back in my chair. I knew he was going to say something about this.
"Why?"
"Family. But, she's coming back, I'm sure," I said, more so to assure myself.
"As long as neither of you blow it this time, all is well," he said, shaking his head.
