Chapter 17: 'Proper' Introduction

Shadé

I stared up at the beautiful skyscrapers of Manhattan, admiring their significant height. I loved everything about New York; Times Square, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, even the fact that there was a food store on every block. I swear there were like four McDonalds that weren't even two blocks apart. Regardless, this city was my home.

Currently, Darrell was in a semi-pissed mood, mainly because he wanted to drive rather than take the subway. Now, we were stuck in a traffic jam, literally moving at five feet per hour.

"So, Darrell, how do you feel about not listening to me," I asked sarcastically, twisting my mouth to one side as I raised my brows in amusement.

He turned to face me and playfully frowned. "Would it be considered self-hate if I said I feel like a dumbass," he replied, raising his dark brows, as well.

I laughed loudly. "No. But hey, it is your fault. Isn't mommy right," I asked, turning in my seat to see the twins in their carseats. Valencia had her foot on the car door as she stared out the window, her upper lip protruded further than her bottom lip as she spoke incoherently to herself. On the other hand, Caine was adamant on playing with his little Mickey Mouse phone that had me running back into my apartment to get for his little ass. After picking me up from work, Darrell took me back to my apartment to bring a few toys and snacks for the twins. But Caine wanted a specific toy, his little phone, which I almost forgot to bring.

I may seem like I'm in a good mood to others, but in my mind, I was panicking. Darrell wanted to meet Vincent, since their first time seeing one another didn't go so well. The babies are with us, so I hoped that they wouldn't end up wanting to tear each others heads off.

But what if Vincent says something about last night? What if he mentions the fact that he made me come with him? Oh, God, I would never hear the end of it from Darrell.

"The building's right there," I informed him.

"I see that, but this asshole is acting like he can't let me pass through," Darrell growled as he tried to turn into the parking garage.

Besides all of the great things I've mentioned about New York, the traffic was pure hell in Manhattan.

After nearly ten minutes, we were finally headed into Trump Towers. Darrell greeted the guards at the door as they opened it for us. I just smiled at them, until I noticed one of them eyeing my son with a raised brow. I rolled my eyes and strolled into the hotel.

My phone buzzed in my hand, averting my attention from the many activities going on in the atrium of the hotel.

I read the text that Vincent sent me and glanced at Darrell who was seated beside the twins's stroller.

"Vincent says to take the third elevator," I informed him.

Darrell nodded as he stood up and navigated the stroller to the gold doors of the elevator. I kept telling myself that, hopefully, nothing was going to happen once the two men came face to face.

"Darrell, you're not going to hit him, are you," I asked, looking at at him.

He looked down at me with a smirk. "Psh...no. Unless he touches me or tries something with you," Darrell warned.
