After another failed assassination attempt, Karma stormed out of the classroom and there was no sign of him.
You believed he could do it, but not alone. You had more faith in him than anyone, but there were times where you felt like he didn't listen to you when you said he wasn't as powerful as he thought. You weren't trying to bring him down, you were trying to make him realize that needing help wasn't a sign of weakness.
You found him racing up to some upper class jerks who were taunting Nagisa. It didn't surprise you that Karma was jumping to the rescue, but you hoped he wouldn't get caught, especially after busting the bottle above the boys' heads and scaring them half to death.
"I'd rather be dead than stuck in a classroom with that freak," one of the boys said.
"Really? I can help you out with that," Karma taunted.
"No, thanks! I'd rather live!" the boy replied, scurrying away with his friend.
"Karma." You sighed, waltzing over to him.
"Come on, they had it coming," he tried to reason.
"He's got a point," Nagisa said.
The three of you decided to brush off the events and head out to the mountain's edge where a view of the town is seen. Karma sat on a branch once you arrived as you and Nagisa stood back to give him the space he needed after his failed attempts.
"Don't sweat it, man. I told you we'll do it together as a group," Nagisa said.
"He's right," you assured. "There's no way any of us could do it alone. He's far too strong for us to comprehend a way to take him down."
"You don't understand; I want to do it on my own," Karma muttered, staring off into the distance.
Just as you went to take a step toward him to comfort the demons swirling in his clouded head, Koro-sensei appeared.
"Oh, Karma," he called. "I feel I've taken exceptional care of you today. That being said, please continue to try and kill me. I never get tired of spiffing you up."
Karma stood and turned to shoot Koro-sensei a smug smile. "Just so we're on the same page here, you consider yourself a teacher above all else?"
"That's right," he confirmed.
"Cool, and you wouldn't think twice about putting your life on the line to save a student?" Karma continued.
"What kind of teacher would I be if I did?"
Karma pulled out his gun and your eyes widened in anticipation of what your boyfriend was planning.
"Good to know. I knew there had to be a way."
Out of nowhere, Karma tipped backwards and you instinctively reached out for him, but it was too late.
"Karma!" you screamed in terror as the redhead disappeared over the edge of the cliff, pivoting to Koro-sensei. "Save him! Please!"
Koro-sensei swooped into action after the initial horror wore off. You began breathing heavily as you held yourself back from peering over the edge to watch the scene unfold. Tears sprung from your eyes, ones that you couldn't hold back no matter how hard you tried.
"I'm going to kill him if he dies," you choked out.
Nagisa set a hand on your shoulder as you waited a minute for Koro-sensei to reappear back on the mountain with a healthy Karma in his grasp. As soon as the teen was set on the ground, you stomped over and slapped him upside the head.
"What the hell were you thinking!?" you shouted angrily, tears still sliding down your face.
"Calm down, (Y/N)," Karma tried, reaching out to give you a hug.
You smacked his arms away and crossed your own in defiance. You huffed and sat down on the branch, wiping away the water from your eyes. Karma almost died and he still never thought about the people who cared for him. You were definitely going to chew him out for this later in private.
"Oh, I get it. You two are involved romantically," Koro-sensei observed, cheerful of his discovery.
"Yeah, maybe not for long with how pissed (Y/N) is," Nagisa commented nervously.
"Don't worry about it. Just give us some space," Karma directed.
"As you wish," Koro-sensei said, soaring off into the sky.
"I'll see you guys later," Nagisa said, waving and jogging away.
Karma sighed loudly and rubbed the back of his neck as he approached you. He always had the facade of being a complete psychopath, but he did have a conscience and a heart, only letting them show when around you. He knew you were the type not to judge him and spread around the way he truly was. That's what he admired most about you.
"Why are you so upset?" Karma asked cluelessly.
You breathed deeply, trying to remind yourself the way Karma was brought up and the way he thinks. You remembered how he didn't realize you cared for him so intensely that his death would make you crumble.
"Karma, I care about you so much," you mumbled. "Seeing you almost die like that hurt me a lot. You can't just do something reckless and put yourself in so much danger when there are people who care about you so deeply."
Karma nodded reluctantly. He was still attempting to get used to others being concerned for his well-being but it was hard for him because he never had that. With estranged parents and being an only child, he never had someone who loved him or cared where he was at three in the morning on school nights.
"It's not just me, think about Nagisa losing his best friend. Think about you losing me. Just, please think next time," you pleaded.
Karma sat next to you and brought you into a side hug where you buried your face in his shoulder. He rubbed up and down your back with one hand as he pulled away the hair from your face with the other.
"I'm sorry, okay? I didn't use my brain," Karma apologized sincerely.
"Apology accepted," you conceded after a moment of silence.
You always knew what you were getting into when you agreed to date Karma Akabane, but you couldn't have counted on being trained assassins and constantly surrounded by death. Although, you had to admit, it made your relationship stronger and far more interesting.
