Finals were here and the anxiety had never been higher, especially with some of Class E making a bet that they would receive higher marks than anyone in Kunugigaoka Academy. The students were sitting at their desks and you had gotten sat far away from Karma, so you kept sneaking glances at him to make sure he wasn't stressing himself out.

To your dismay, you saw Karma clenching his teeth every once in a while and shaking his leg, letting his anxious state show. You concentrated on your test, though, because it was of detrimental importance that you score well.

When the results were finally in a week later, you were sitting next to Karma in the back of 3-E and his hand was intertwined with yours under the desks you had pushed together. His grip was tight around yours, indicating the nervousness he felt over this, but he wouldn't voice it.

Koro-sensei began reading out the test grades and you were stoked to know you scored highest in math for the whole grade, including Class E, and placed in the top three for the whole grade in every other subject, only being beaten out by either a member of Class E or Class A.

Koro-sensei handed back the overall scores and you could see the rage burning in Karma's eyes as he let go of your hand and stomped out of the classroom. He had placed thirteenth. You sighed and, after checking that you ranked overall second in the grade right behind Asano, threw your papers in the bin and went after your boyfriend.

When you got to the schoolyard, you saw Koro-sensei outright taunting Karma, even going as far as to poke Karma with his tentacles and turn the striped shade of green he does when he feels superior. Karma's face was red because of both embarrassment and anger and there's was nothing you hated seeing more than that, but when you heard what Koro-sensei was telling him, it pushed you over the edge.

"Those who fail to apply themselves at the moment of truth and let the chips fall where they may are destined for disappointment. You know, I wouldn't call you an assassin at all, a bragger perhaps, but an assassin? I think not."

You pulled out your knife and pounced at those last words like a tiger on a gazelle, slicing off one of his tentacles as far up his flesh as you could make it. Then, you went for another and managed to take the opposite tentacle as well before stopping your assault to see the bewildered expression of your teacher.

You pointed your knife at him and said, "That was my shot at your tentacle that I earned and the other was for Karma."

"H-How--" Koro-sensei was taken aback by your speed and precision because, like the others, he didn't expect anything of you in these assassination attempts.

"Don't underestimate your opponent," you stated, taking Karma's hand and putting away your fake blade.

"You didn't have to do that," Karma mumbled.

"Yeah, I did," you said. "I gave up a lot to be with you, Karma, and I'm not going to let some octopus taunt you when he has no idea how hard you work."

"I'm kind of surprised you managed only two of his tentacles before he was caught off guard."

You smirked. "Just like you, I have my secret techniques and a good assassin never reveals their secrets."

Your actions and words calmed down Karma enough to go to the end of term assembly and celebrate your future vacation in Okinawa with your class. The first day of vacation, a week before Okinawa, 3-E was training at the schoolyard with guns and targets for practice.

Because of Lovro's presence, he wanted to evaluate each student, so everyone was pulling out all they had to impress him. Your specialty was in swift combat, so you chose to have two pistols in your hands with the targets set to strike.

You watched as each of your classmates showcased their given talents, especially Karma who decided to show off his amazing close combat skills by tearing up a Koro-sensei doll.

When it was your turn, no one expected greatness from you, but that was how you like it. You started off with easy shots from the two pistols, then built your momentum and rolled, jumped, spun, and reloaded for each target as you moved down the line. By the end, your classmates were wide-eyed and gaping at your speed and precision.

"Where the hell did that come from!?" Maehara yelled.

"Practice," you said, putting your guns away.

"Where did you learn that kick flip you did on the third target?" Lovro asked curiously.

"A good assassin never reveals their secrets," you responded, walking away with Karma following soon after.

Showing off your skills wasn't something you planned on doing anytime soon, but when the situation called for it, you knew you couldn't back down from the fight. You needed to let everyone know you were a force to be reckoned with. With the next assassination attempt approaching, you had to ensure to your classmates that you were able to be counted on and that they could trust you.

"What is your secret?" Karma questioned, even himself being left in the dark to the secret of you abilities.

"Pain," you answered tersely.

Karma put his arm across your shoulders and held you to his side as you walked down the mountain. He wanted to always have you this close, but he knew you needed room to fly after what you had been through. Life wasn't easy for either of you, but you would protect each other with your last breaths.

Perhaps this class wasn't about being an assassin to kill Koro-sensei, maybe it was about learning to protect what needed to be protected and love those who are hard to. At least, that was what you had learned, and you hoped Karma understood that too.
