song: pull by spooky black
moodboard:keith jumped out of his lion, his face red with frustration. the entire team was screaming at him through his helmet because of a decision he made during battle that "could have gotten him killed". keith didn't think it was all too reckless, but his fellow paladins thought otherwise.
he watched the green lion land, pidge jumping out almost immediately. she was angry, not only because keith could have died, but because his decision put her at risk, too.
"what the fuck were you thinking?!" she screamed as she stomped up to the red paladin, pointing a gloved finger in his face. "shit, keith, i know you've got some temper, but you need some fucking impulse control!"
keith only stared back, his body shaking with rage. he was taken aback by pidge's reaction, but he didn't let it show.
the black, yellow, and blue lions landed in the hangar not soon afterwards. shiro jumped out of his lion not soon after landing, and made his way towards keith and pidge as well.
when he reached them, pidge was still screaming at keith. shiro put a hand on her shoulder, cutting her off. he looked at keith with true disappointment in his eyes, which shook keith to his core.
"i know it was a mistake, keith." he said, looking away. "just make sure it doesn't happen again."
keith nodded, suppressing the emotion behind his throat. shiro walked away with pidge, leaving keith until tomorrow.

the frustration within keith only grew, stopping him from sleeping. he tossed and turned for hours until he finally left his quarters, his fists clenched. he needed to calm down.
he sulked down the all too familiar dark castle pathways until he reached the control deck. allura often left the controls aligned so one could see out the windows, making the control deck a fantastic place to watch the stars pass by.
but, when he reached the deck and stepped out onto it, there was already someone there.
lance sat in the middle of the room, his head craned upwards, watching the stars out the large windows. keith was about to leave, but his footsteps caught lance's attention, causing him to turn his head around and stare up at keith who stood feet away.
keith panicked, turning immediately to walk out.
"no, wait-" lance said, crawling into his knees.
keith turned slowly, confused. "what?"
lance swallowed, regretting speaking up at all. "i, uh..." he stuttered, cursing himself for being so awkward. "i'll leave. you can stay." he said, standing up.
keith shook his head. "it's fine. stay." he said, walking towards him and gesturing for the both of them to sit down. lance sat, rigid and confused. he wasn't sure what to say.
"do you usually come here at night?" keith asked, looking out into space.
lance looked over to him, surprised that keith was talking to him at all. "uh, yea, whenever i miss home i come out here. do you?"
keith nodded. "i come out here when i'm frustrated or i just can't sleep." he said, watching lance prop his head between his knees out of the corner of his eye.
"keith?" lance asked, staring ahead.
"yea?" keith answered, looking over to the paladin next to him.
lance didn't look up. "do you miss earth?"
keith sighed, looking back ahead of him. "all the time."
lance sat up, looking at keith. "you do?"
"of course. we left without even saying goodbye. i doubt there's anyone left on earth to care about me, though." keith answered, looking over to lance.
lance sighed. "i miss my family so bad, keith. i left so many things behind there, mi mama must be so worried about me." he said, pain hanging in his voice.
keith hestitated. "tell me about your home." he said quietly, looking down from the other paladin.
"really?" lance asked, keith nodding. lance smiled weakly. "i lived on veradero beach, with seven siblings, mis padres, y mis abuelos. i used to surf in the water, the waves used to get, like, ten feet tall." he said, waving his hands in front of him as he spoke. "mi mama used to hate it when i went out too far. she was always..." he paused, his face growing sad. "she was always scared of loosing me." he said, his voice quiet. "she was scared of loosing me, and she did." his voice wavered as tears grew in his eyes. "i-i'm sorry, i should go-" he said, cutting himself off as he scrambled to his feet to leave.
suddenly, as he started to stumble away, keith grabbed his wrist, stopping him dead in his tracks. lance looked back at him, shock and tears in his eyes. keith was equally as surprised, he didn't even think before grabbing onto his wrist.
lance's breath grew heavy as he stood, tears multiplying in his eyes until finally he broke down. keith's hand slid into lance's as the blue paladin knelt, sobbing hysterically. keith hesitated, unsure on how to comfort him. his anxiety grew as lance continued to sob. keith looked down at the hand in his and squeezed, making lance look up from where he stared at the floor and into keith's lavender eyes.
"i-i'm not sure how to comfort you." keith said nervously. lance moved, sliding close next to keith, their hands still interlocked. lance sighed, his sobs slowing down into a slow cry and heavy breathing. he moved closer to keith, resting his head on the red paladins shoulder.
keith sat rigid, his heart beating fast against his chest as lance stopped crying. lance squeezed keith's hand softly, calming both of them down.
keith looked out into space, resting his head on lance's.
this was okay.
