the night crawled into the room silently; richie stared up at the ceiling and watched the way the shadows moved across the room every time a car passed their little apartment building.

stanley hummed as he, half-awake, moved closer to richie in bed.

richie's thoughts crept in just like the night, a silent killer that lived in richie's head every time the sun went down. his depression crawled across the room like a spider, long spiny legs wrapped around his head and whispered things to him in the night, the only light coming from his cigarette.

stan sat up on his elbow, taking the cigarette out of richie's mouth and kissing him softly on the lips. richie usually kissed back, but he couldn't; he felt frozen in time. the spider's legs got tighter around his skull.

"i love you, richie." stanley whispered as he settled back down into the soft bed.

"i love you too, stan." he said, not sure if he was lying or not.
