"don't you fuckin die on me, orange!" the criminal yelled from the front seat of the car as he sped down the highway.

"you're gonna be okay, kid, don't you fall asleep on me, stay with me orange." he said quieter, almost pleadingly.

"freddy!" the injured man in the backseat managed to spurt out.

"what?"

"my name... is freddy...!" he yelled, struggling to maintain consciousness as he avoided looking down at the pool of blood he was writhing in.

"okay, freddy, i'm lenny. you gotta listen to me kid, you gotta hear what i'm sayin and you gotta stay the fuck awake, you hear me?" lenny said loudly as he held freddy's hand, staring straight at the road ahead of him.

"o-okay, lenny-" he said before wincing in agonizing, white hot pain.

"we just have to loose these cops," lenny said, looking back at freddy. "and then i can pull over and patch you up, okay? you hear what i'm saying?"

"y-yea, i hear you." the younger man said as he avoided screaming in pain. he writhed and struggled in the backseat of the car, yelps of pain escaping his thin lips. his thin fingers wrapped lenny's in a death grip, as if holding on tighter would make the bullet hole hurt less. he frantically panicked as he tried to not think about the pain, he panicked about if this man would save his life because if he did, freddy would have to come clean about everything; not only his feelings, but as his situation as an undercover police officer that got shot by one of his own men.

he didn't want to tell lenny. he wanted to let mr. white fix him up and run away with him. he wanted to forget about his life as a police officer and live his life with the older man and never tell him about his occupation.

"okay," lenny said quieter as the sirens faded into the distance. "we can stop here so i can stitch that up."

freddy's pain got increasingly unbearable as mr.white pulled over on the gravel path, stopping the car and frantically getting out. he swung the back door open and kneeled on the ground next to freddy.

"jesus christ..." he whispered as he opened freddy's shirt, seeing the wound for the first time outside of his bloody buttonup. he pulled out a bottle of isopropyl alcohol from the back seat and opened up the cap, pouring it on the bullet wound without warning. freddy screamed, white hot pain searing his midriff.

"sorry, kid. it's better without warning." lenny said apologetically. he pulled a small white kit from the car floor and pulled out what he needed. gauze, more alcohol, and a thread and needle.

"try to ignore the pain. think about something else, ora-... freddy." he said kindly.

freddy's mind wandered to better places, thoughts of his mother and his shabby apartment, of his brothers and of lenny. of being able to love and live happily with mr.white.

lenny took a last swipe through freddy's raw skin and tied off the needle. "try to wipe that blood off you if you can." he said, handing orange a wet piece of gauze.

as freddy struggled to sit up and wipe the blood off his chest, lenny slowly moved onto the seat and allowed for freddy to rest his head on lenny's lap.

freddy began to cry, for his pain and his grief and his inability to tell lenny the truth.

suddenly, sirens began to get increasingly closer. lenny began to cry too; for he knew this was the end.

"lenny..." freddy managed to get out. "lenny, i'm so sorry..."

lenny looked down at him and stroked the side of his face. "d-don't apologize kid... it ain't your fault."

freddy cried harder. "yes, it is."

lenny's brows furrowed. "kid, you couldn't have done anything to cause this-"

the sirens were close now, ringing in their ears.

"i'm a cop!" he finally managed to get out. astonishment and shock took over lenny's worried expression. "i'm a cop, larry i'm so sorry, i'm so sorry..."

larry took the pistol out of his pocket. he held it up to his temple and tried not to cry harder.

"p-please larry, i love you, don't do this!"

larry sighed, cocking the gun.

"i love you too, kid."

a single gunshot fired.

the sirens got closer.
