I watched as the leaves swayed steadily in the light evening breeze. It calmed me. Slowed my racing thoughts. Centred me. I always loved to come back to nature, where I came from and where I belong. The rules of werewolf's and their mates meant I would only be able to find mine once I turned 18. My mind reeled at the thought, tomorrow being the first day to the rest of my life. A part of me never wanted to find my mate, it would mean I'd have to settle down and anyone that know me knows that not something your going to be able to do easily. Tomorrow is my 18th Birthday. And from then on any wolf I see could potentially be my mate. Be it rogue, omega, alpha, beta... anyone could bet the one. It was intimidating, the idea of being able to find my mate and then never looking at anyone the same... never finding anyone else attractive, never caring about anyone else the way I care for them.

"You coming?" Charlie called from the clearing behind me

"Yep." I say as I stand up and move in the direction the voice came from. I stopped and watched the moon, sighing at the thought any minute I could find my mate. We move frequently, rogues can never stay in one place for long. It used to be Charlie, Peter, Abi and me but Abi found her mate in a pack doctor a few months ago so now only me, Charlie and Peter roam. Being rogues to many would seem like the end of the world. I mean, we're practically homeless so I can see why. But I never had this much fun whilst I was in a pack. We move regularly to stop suspicions rising in the towns near where we stayed. The last thing we needed was werewolf hunters catching news that there were some wolves living in a woods near a town where suddenly food went missing from small shops and clothes were being stolen from locker rooms in the high schools. We were moving along to the woods not far from the Blue Mark pack. They were infamous for their hatred of rogues and their harsh torture of traitors or rogues they found so it was brave for any rogue to be in the same state as them, never mind just a few miles from their borders. Rumours came around a few years ago of their alpha, who was only in place a few months at best, being overthrown by his beta and being made an omega instead. This was rare but not impossible. It showed power. It intimidated other packs. It would make that pack the most feared pack in the country! And so they were. Finding a small shed-like building we stopped. It looked like it had been abandoned for years. "Why have we stopped?" I enquired

"Look up" Peter said, mater-of-fact-ly "You can see a storm coming in and it's better to be under some shelter when it does." He continued as he opened the creaking door and stepped inside. My eyes adjusted to the darkness fast and I could see a light bulb swinging from the ceiling. Fumbling around we finally found the switch and the light illuminated the room. We looked around at the wooden building and each sat down in a corner. "I'll take first watch." Peter suggested "Mya, you look terribly, get some rest!"

"Wow, thanks" I said, sarcasm obvious in my voice. Peter smiled and winked

"Don't think we forgot about your 18th birthday tomorrow!" Charlie interjected chuckling as he put his small rucksack of clothes beneath his head and shut his eyes. I sighed, smiled at Peter, and did the same myself. The last thing I saw before I let myself drift into the darkness known as sleep was a swinging light and a grinning Peter.

---

I woke up to a bright light, not like the flickering light I went to sleep to. I looked around aghast at my surroundings. I was in a small caged-off section of a large room, there were other - what looked like - cells around me. I could barely make out Peter's bruised face from the cell in front of me. There was a strong scent of blood filling the room and the sounds of Charlie's screams echoed around it. I looked around for the source of my friends screams frantically before Peter turned to me

"He's in the o-other room" he stuttered, wincing with pain as he did so.

"Where are we?" I cried, desperate for some news on Charlie and how we could get out. Before Peter could answer the door screeched open and in walked an intimidating man holding Charlie by his neck. He flung him into the cell next to Peter and walked over to mine. He pulled open the metallic bars and sauntered his way over to me. He bent down, the peppermint on his breath overwhelming my senses

"Where, my dear?" He casually teased, leaning into my ear "That would be the Blue Mark pack." he finished before reaching over and scraping his teeth against my neck. His words would send any wolf into a panic, never mind a rogue who they were renowned for killing in the most painful way possible. But, instead of fear, I felt intrigue and attraction. His scent was overwhelming me now, his touch sent my nerves into a frenzy

'MATE!!' my wolf screamed. My mouth trembled as I muttered the words "Y-you. Your my mate."

"Why, yes. That would be it." He said, sadistically. "You're my little, weak mate." He said coldly, before lunging forward and biting deep into my neck. Marking me...

Pain shook my whole body. The marking is the worst pain you can feel if you don't accept it. My neck ached with pain, trying to focus on his scent didn't provide any comfort when he was the one providing the hurt. Once he was done he looked at his work before staring at my tear stained face and chuckling.

"You're mine" he laughed, leaning in close again "And I'm going to make sure everyone know that." He says whilst leaving a trail of kisses right down to the mark. He gets up and leaves just before turning back to me and adding "See you later, darling."

After that, everything went dark and quiet as I slipped out of consciousness.

---

I was woken up again by the creaking sound of the metallic doors opening once again. In walked my mate. The words sent shivers up my spine... He'd already marked me and I don't even know his name. He walked over to my cell, relishing in my discomfort at seeing him approach. He smiled,

"It's your turn now, sweetie." he chuckled whilst reaching down and releasing the chain around my ankle. He took my arm and dragged me up. "Now, are you going to be a good girl and come with me easily, or am I going to have to carry you out instead?" He said nibbling on my ear as he did so. I turned around so my face was in his.

"What do you think?" I asked, using my sweetest voice possible while trying to hold back my disgust at the creature that stood in front of me

"I think your getting a bit too confident." He murmured, reaching down and grazing his teeth against the mark. I tried pushing away from him but he had reached around my back and was holding me in place. So I did the only thing that came to mind. I pulled back my leg for maximum impact and sharply kicked him in the balls. He keeled over in pain so I took the chance to grab his keys and threw them through the bars to Peter before running out the door he had just come through.
