After shuffling the kids to school and making an honest day's work at the Beacon Hills Foster Home, all while planning Kylie's
birthday party.
Malia still found time to call Scott on her lunch hour.
"Dr McCall. Can we talk now?" Malia asked annoyed.
"Now's not a good time.
I have a client. We'll talk tonight."Scott said putting on his gloves." Scott said.
"You said that last night.
But last night you fell asleep.
Kylie is going to be thirteen in two days. Two! Did you forget the deal you made with Araya? She is coming for our daughter and if Kylie does anything in the next two days, either her or you are going to kill her and if that happens I am going to send the kids with my dad to DC and Beacon Hills will burn."
Malia threatened.
"Honey, calm down."
Scott said gently.
"Do not tell me to calm down! You made this deal so fix it!"
Malia yelled and hung up.
Trying to calm herself.
She kept it together for the kids. Helped them with their homework. Made dinner and put the little ones to bed.
Making final calls to friends, family and old family friends.
When everything was quiet and she was alone, Malia finally broke down.
Crying in the bathroom when she thought no one was listening. Only to have Raph come out to check on her.
"Mommy?" Raph said gently from outside the bathroom.
"Raph? What  are you doing out of bed?" Malia sniffled.
"I heard you crying. What's wrong?" Raph asked.
"Nothing. I'm not crying." Malia lied. Kylie came out.
"What are you doing?"
Kylie asked.
"Mom's crying." Raph said.
"Not possible." Kylie said.
Scott came in the door and saw the commotion.
"Mom is crying. What did you do?" Kylie asked.
"What? I just got here!"
Scott defended.
"Talk to her. Go."
Kylie ordered. Scott sighed and opened the door.
"Malia. What are you doing in here? Get up." Scott said.
"Oh my gosh. Come on, Raph. Let's go back to bed. I'll tuck you in." Kylie said.
"What about__"
"Dad's got her. She's fine.
Let's go." Kylie said. The little boy went skeptically with his sister. Letting the adults talk.
"Why are you crying? You don't...cry. At all. Did somebody get hurt or..."
Scott questioned.
"If I knew this is what it took to get your attention, I would have turned on the waterworks months ago." Malia half joked.
"I pay attention to you."
Scott said. Meeting her on the floor. Holding her.
"Not really. You can't take two minutes out of your busy schedule to talk to me.
I miss you. The kids miss you.
They're getting bigger every day and they barely know you." Malia's voice cracked.
"I know. That's on me.
I promise I'm not trying to hurt you or the kids on purpose. I just get...busy.
I don't know how to do it.
Work and take care of everybody. It's tough."
Scott said. Malia smiled.
"You don't have to tell me.
I live it. Taking the kids to school. Raph to softball practice. Keeping them alive.
Working. Then Kylie's thirteenth is coming up and I have to get everything ready for that. Make sure Kylie doesn't kill anyone... I'm just...overwhelmed. Tired" Malia said. Starting to cry all over again.
"No no no. Don't do that. Please don't cry. I'm sorry.
I should be helping you more.
And I know you probably feel that I don't love you but I do.
I love you more than anything. I just suck at being an adult. Responsibility..." Scott said rubbing her arm.
"I don't want to be the adult in this relationship. It's not me. But we have kids who need us. We can't afford to be kids ourselves." Malia said.
"Ugh. I know. When we were teenagers we had all of Beacon Hills to protect... Now we just have three little to look out for." Scott smiled.
"Three little ones to keep alive. Honey..."
"It'll be fine. I got it under control. But you have to go to bed. I'll join you. Deal?" Scott asked standing.
"Okay. Help me up, McCall."
Malia extended her hand.
Scott pulled her up and took her to bed. Where he held her for the first time in months.

Malia woke up in a panic the next morning. Running downstairs and calling for the kids. Only to find them sitting around the table and Scott trying to cook.
"What is this?"
Malia asked smiling warmly.
"It's breakfast. Sort of. I figured you were right. I am uninvolved but I want to try harder. Anything to keep that smile on your face." Scott said. Malia hugged him and the kids and dog looked on happily.
"So are you better now?" Raph asked.
Poking at his eggs.
"So much better. And Scott? I admire the effort but..."
Malia laughed.
"What she's trying to say is don't ever cook again."
Kylie translated. Knocking her toast against the plate. Cracking it.
Everyone burst out laughing.
The house was filled with laughter for the first time in, what seemed like years.
