Kylie passed her best friends in the hall and acted like they were strangers. It was killing her because all she wanted to do was girl talk and shop with Vitani and poke fun at Klaus. But it was all part of the plan.
"I miss you, girl." Kylie pouted.
"I miss you too, honey bee. We are long overdue for a chat and shop." Vitani said. "And a mani/pedi."
"Right? I swear my toes are a freaking nightmare right now." Kylie said.
"Girl...I can't stand to look at them. Like__ crap! The boys are here.
Gotta go. Love you. Bye." Vitani hung up. Leaving Kylie lonely again.
"I sense sadness. Why do I sense sadness?" Malia asked entering the room. Kylie gave a sad smile.
"I'm fine. I just miss my friends." Kylie said. Playing with her stuffed wolf.
"I know baby but it's just for a little while. It has to be believable.
Until such time, make up with Greenberg. He's your best friend too and I know you miss him." Malia said.
"Yes but he wants nothing to do with me, mom." Kylie sighed sadly.
"I'm sure that's not true. Look, invite him for dinner tonight. I'm making his favorite. Pizza chicken and pasta." Malia said with a cute smile.
"I don't think he'd go for it but I'll try." Kylie said. Malia kissed her head.
"There's my girl." Malia said and got up. "Aren't you too old to still be sleeping with that thing?"
"No. Liam gave him to me. It's special." Kylie said cutely.
"It's the same age as you and covered in drool." Malia said.
"Regardless." Kylie shrugged.
"Make the call." Malia said and left.
"I am." Kylie grabbed her phone and pressed four.
He was still on speed dial. "Eugene?"
"Kylie. Everything okay?" Kai asked.
"Yeah. I guess." Kylie said.
"Not to be a dick but...why are you calling me?" Kai asked.
"I wanted to see if...Are those gunshots?" Kylie asked.
"Yeah." Kai said followed by another shot. And Valerie saying he's had enough."Sorry. I got carried away."
"Am I interrupting something?" Kylie asked. Kai kicked the wolf on the other end.
"No, I can talk__I never miss, okay? If I wanted you dead you would be.
We just wanted to talk." Kai said.
"You seem busy." Kylie said.
"Little bit." Kai threw the resting wolf over his shoulder and tossing him in the trunk. "What do you want?"
"I just wanted to see if you wanted to come over for dinner." Kylie said.
"Yeah. I'd love to." Kai said.
"You would?! Okay. Dinner's at 8:00."
Kylie said surprised.
"See you then. Trigger out." Kai said and ended the call.
Kylie raised an eyebrow. Wondering what all that was about but shrugging it off. Going downstairs."Oh, Christina!" Kai called playfully.
"What took you two so long?"
Chris asked.
"No hi daughter? Or Glad you two made it back alive? Just business, business, business?" Valerie asked.
"Smart ass. Where is he?" Chris asked.
"In the trunk. Help us get him in the basement." Kai said. Chris complied.
"I am desperate for a hot bath right now." Valerie said grabbing the keys.
"You'll have to wait for your mother. Guys. What the hell is this?" Chris asked looking at the bleeding wolf.
"He started it." Kai said.
"I just gave him a little tranquilizer, daddy." Valerie said innocently.
"I didn't hit any vital points so he should heal once we take it out."
Kai said hopefully.
"Just...help me before he wakes up." Chris said. The boys took it out. Passing the wolf through the house.
"Whoa whoa whoa! What are my top three house rules?"
Melissa asked annoyed.
"Boots off at the door. Don't track blood or mud through the house.
No dead werewolves in the
living room." They said together.
"Still. Every time. Get him to the basement and wash up."
Melissa sighed.
"Wanna help us remove bullets so he doesn't die?" Valerie asked cutely.
"You're precious." Melissa said.
"Had to try. Kai. Come help me take care of him." Valerie said.
"Why?" Kai asked taking the wolf to the basement.
"Because you put like nine bullets in him." Valerie said following them.
"It was six but I see your point."
Kai said. As they removed the bullets, Chris intermittently knocking him out__ they had a casual conversation.
"So guess who has a date tonight." Valerie said almost girl like.
"What sideshow freak would want to go out with you?" Kai asked sarcastically. Earning him a punch to the ribs. Chris rolled his eyes.
"I meant your date with Kylie tonight.
Idiot." Valerie rolled her eyes.
"That? It's not a date." Kai said.
"Well how did she ask?" Chris asked.
"Like she really didn't want to but her mom wants us to make up so she invited me to dinner." Kai explained.
"Don't you want to make up with her?" Valerie asked.
"I mean...yeah. Obviously." Kai said.
"Then you should go. You're all set, buddy." Valerie tapped his chest.
They went upstairs. Valerie taking first crack at the shower and Kai going home to shower and change.
He took his sweet time but still got there one minute late.
Curse his punctuality.
He wasn't sure if they were still close enough for him to walk on in like he usually does so he rang the bell.
"You came." Kylie said surprised.
"Well your mom invited me and I have spot for her so." Kai said.
"I invited you but whatever. Still glad you came. Come on in." Kylie said.
"Thanks." Kai said and entered.
"Greenberg!" Raph shouted happily.
"Shorty!" Kai answered and picked him up.
Taking him to the kitchen.
"Mrs McCall. Lose something?"
Kai asked putting him down.
"Eugene. Oh look at you. You've grown up so much! You're so slim and handsome. Oh I missed you!" Malia said happily hugged him. Rocked him. Kissing him on the forehead.
"Malia. You're crushing him, sweetie." Scott said pulling his wife off.
"Thank you." Kai coughed.
"Sorry. Just...happy to see you.
Sit. Eat. You're to thin." Malia said.
"I'm happy to see you too. I won't give you a death hug though."
Scott laughed.
"I appreciate it. Handshake?"
Kai asked. Scott took his hand
and shook it.
"You've gotten stronger." Scott said.
"A little bit. Not as strong as you obviously. Hi, Ari. You got big too."
"Do I know you?" Ari asked.
"I look a little different from the last time you saw me." Kai smiled and puffed his cheeks.
Deflating them in his hands.
"Oogie!" Ari said remembering.
"Oogie?" Kylie asked confused.
"When he was 2 and started talking he couldn't pronounce Eugene so 'Oogie' was as close as he got."
Kai explained. Kylie smiled.
"Settle down folks. Time to eat." Malia said and sat down. They said grace and the savagery began.
She had already taken out for the little ones and everyone else was a free-for-all. Kai and Scott the biggest pieces of chicken. Some Fettuccini.
And there was salad that no one but Malia took.
They spent the rest of the night eating and catching up until it was time for the two to hash it out on the porch.
"Ready to talk?" Kylie asked.
"You first." Kai said.
"Okay...This civil war between us is killing me and I miss you." Kylie said.
"We're at war? Huh. Well I miss you too." Kai said. "I'm just giving you your space."
"I don't want space. I want you."
Kylie said.
"Might wanna rephrase that. Things can get misconstrued." Kai said.
"Right...sorry. I wish I felt the same way because you're an amazing guy but...I don't know..." Kylie struggled.
"You like me but as a friend.
Totally platonic." Kai said.
"Right. And trust me, you'll find someone who loves you." Kylie said.
"The way I love you? Impossible." Kai said with a little smile. A peck on the cheek and he hopped on his bike.
"So we're good?" Kylie asked.
"Great." Kai said and peeled off on his bike. Kylie getting closure.
