Between all the party planning, her daily duties and an obsessive amount of baking, Malia found the time to have a certain talk with Kylie ten minutes before she turned thirteen.
"Ky? Can we talk?" Malia asked as she entered.
"Always. What's up?"
Kylie asked.
Malia sat next to her.
"You can drop the cool act. I know you're excited about your birthday in...eight minutes or so." Malia said.
"Ah! Yes! So psyched. I'm going to be thirteen! I am officially a teenager now." Kylie said excitedly.
"I know you are. I'm not trying to rain on your parade but....I need to tell you something. I wanted your dad here for this but let him have some fun with Stiles."
Malia said warmly.
"What is it? It sounds serious." Kylie said worried.
"It is. While I was still pregnant with you, some hunters tried to kill me.
To kill you. But I carried you to term and took care of you for two whole months.
Then, mommy needed a vacation to keep her sanity.
So I went to Vegas with grandma and Aunty Hayden." Malia explained.
"You went to Vegas? Really?" Kylie asked surprised.
"I had a life before, okay?
Anyway, daddy, grandpas and uncle Liam were watching you. On the night we were coming back, the leader of the Calavera hunters snuck in, while your daddy was sleeping right next to you kill you. Peter grabbed her from behind waiting for further instructions. Anyway, long story short; Your dad made a deal with Araya to keep you alive until you turn thirteen.
Good night. Happy birthday." Malia kissed her daughter's forehead and stood up.
"Whoa! Hold up. Someone is coming to kill me?" Kylie asked worried.
"Not unless you don't kill anyone in the next 24 hours.
If you do, your father has to take your life."
Malia explained. Kylie gave her the scared puppy eyes. "I don't like the idea either but he says he has "a plan". We should trust him." Malia said.
"Okay..."
Kylie swallowed dryly.
"Everything will be fine. Get some rest. You have school and a birthday to enjoy later." Malia said warmly.
"Good night." Kylie watched with wide eyes as his mother left the room. She tried to get some sleep until sunrise. When she woke and came downstairs, a hearty breakfast and warm
Happy Birthday.
"Happy Birthday, my big girl.
You're growing up so fast!
I wanted you to remain my baby forever and ever!" Scott said hugging her tightly.
"You're crushing me." Kylie said. Scott apologized and kissed her forehead.
"I told her." Malia said.
"I figured as much. How do you feel about it?"
Scott asked.
"Like I don't want to talk about it over breakfast."
Kylie said with a sweet smile.
And that's what they did.
Carried on like the situation didn't exist.
Scott and Malia went to work. Kylie and Raph went to school. The youngest stayed with grandpa Henry and the dog caused mischief because he was bored. Normal day.
But after an afternoon of making themselves pretty,
Malia and Kylie drove to the Pent House__Now owned by grandpa Peter__to throw Kylie's night time bash.
The first party she's ever had at night. She was so happy it totally made her forget about the impending doom.
When she went up all her friend, family and family friends were waiting to greet her. Peter grabbed her and hugged her tight.
"Happy Birthday, fur ball.
Don't you dare grow up too fast." Peter said crushing her.
"That'll do, Peter." Kylie said.
"Hey. What am I to you?" Peter asked. Holding her face.
"Grandpa." Kylie said.
"Good. And I will always be grandpa to you. Grandpa will be on my tombstone."
Peter said. "Clear?"
"Clear." Kylie laughed.
"Good girl." Peter said kissing her forehead and cheeks.
"Stop. You're embarrassing me." Kylie said shyly.
"Get used to it. Back off Scott! The mushrooms are mine!"
Peter yelled and went over to Scott. Kylie shook her head at their immaturity and Greenberg came over.
"Hey. Happy birthday. Again. You look pretty. With the hair and the face." Eugene said.
"As opposed to my bald, ugly self." Kylie said sarcastically.
"Oh no. I didn't mean__you always look pretty. I was just__" Kylie stopped him.
"Relax, E. I'm messing with you." Kylie scoffed. Eugene breathed a sigh of relief.
"I got you a present."
Eugene said and took something out of his pocket.
"Hmm...what is it?"
Kylie asked tilting her head.
"Open it." He said smiling.
"An iPod? Seriously?!" Kylie asked happily.
"Dude, are you kidding? This is awesome. How can you afford this?" Kylie asked.
"Don't worry about it." Eugene said.
"Whatever, loser. Thank you." Kylie kissed his cheek."Hey. None of that." Liam said whisking her away.
"Uncle Liam!"
Kylie said happily.
"Hi, bunny. Happy birthday.
It seems like just yesterday I was talking to you in your mommy's tummy. Feeding you. Changing your diapers." Liam said cutely.
"Thank you, uncle Liam." Kylie said embarrassed.
"You're welcome. No boys 'til you're 40. Okay, honey?" Liam kissed her forehead and went off to mingle with the adults.
"Ky." Derek said with a drive- by smack to the head.
"Ow." Kylie said with a confused look.
"Why did he do that?"
Eugene asked.
"Oh that's normal.
My mom's cousin. He does that a lot but he's harmless." Kylie said. Stiles came by.
"Hey, kid. Happy birthday." Stiles said sweetly.
"Thanks Stiles. Where's your armpit hair?" Kylie asked.
"If you mean my wife, she's at the desert table." Stiles said.
"I think I'll join her. You want something, E?" Kylie asked.
"I'll help myself." He said.
"Cool." Kylie said and went over. The rest of the night was chill. Kylie explaining the family/friends relations to Eugene. Eating. Laughing and getting presents.
But the mood changed when everyone left and Peter and the McCall pack was left to clean up.
"I heard there was a party.
I'm hurt no one invited me." Araya said sarcastically.
The fangs and claws came out. Ready for a fight.
"You must be the bitch that keeps trying to kill me."
Kylie said dryly.
"Friends just call me, Araya." She said moving closer.
Scott and Malia formed a barrier in front of her.
"I'm okay. And we're not friends." Kylie said.
"You're the spitting image of your mother." Araya smirked.
"Yeah. And she has my personality." Malia said.
"You can back down. I'm not here to kill the little one.
I've been shadowing her for two days. She has an incredible amount of control for something that powerful. First born of a True Alpha and a Werecoyote. A Hale.
Formidable but pure of heart...I'm a woman of my word. I will leave the girl alone. But one slip up and I'll be waiting." Araya warned before slipping out like the last couple minutes never happened. They all breathed a collective sigh of relief.
"That was close. How do you feel, Ky?" Scott asked,
turning to her.
"I feel like a badass."
Kylie said. Peter, Scott and Malia laughed. She was definitely a piece of each of them. After the clean-a-thon,
Peter helped the family load Kylie's loot into the S.U.V.
That should have been the end of it but of course it isn't.
Because life in Beacon Hills could never be that easy.
