"hey Shadow?" I asked while staring at the mark on my hand as I laid on the bed, bedridden since the fight with the demon.
"yes?" she answered.
"this is a tattoo of sorts no?" I asked.
"no it's a rune"
"a rune?"
"they are magical...... well you could call them tattoos if you really want but they permit you to access your summons"
"but you don't have those for your wolves"
"there are different types of runes Emma" she said, sitting on the table "my runes are temporary, I draw a sun and moon on my palms with my blood, that takes more magical power and your rune is eternal, unless you die or break the contract, that rune on your hand with not vanish, you put some blood on it in exchange of summoning the summon with the same rune on their body... those runes can be stacked.... what I mean you can have multiple on you but it's hard to summon more than one at a time or it will use a lot of magic"
"okay.... when you summoned your wolves it took you long"
"that was just for show and if I have the time, I can also simply draw the runes on my hands and say 'seal of the twin wolves open' and they will come but I would use up a little more power.... I do have a permanent rune like you though"
"show me!" I asked.
she sighed and pulled up the right sleeve of her hoodie to reveal a little wave.

"to become host you need to past a contract with the god or goddess that choose you, with the contract the god or goddess agrees to lend you their powers and you agree to lend them your body" Shadow said.
"you are a dictionary of magic I swear" I said.
"I try" she smirked at me "we need to go soon; we've spend too much time here instead of searching for quests anyway" she said seriously.
"alright but tell me more about the runes" I asked.
"well runes can be either burned or carved on the body of someone and different runes do different things.... there are the summoning runes, the gods' runes and the ability runes, those can boost your strength, speed, healing or anything really"
"so why not use them to heal?"
"oh gods Emma you and your questions.... you need to be a rune mage and be taught to fight with runes"
"but we use it for summoning" she sighed at my stupidity.
"the gods and summoning runes can be used by anyone that learned the spells needed, like you and the constellation keeper rune you have.... I think you could try opting to be a summoning rune mage"
