Loud laughter filled the Brock's home. Giggling ten year old boys sat on the floor surrounded by blankets and pillows, perfect for a sleep over. The two boys had hung out all the time from the moment they met. It was like they just clicked. The two often were referred to as a pair, you couldn't have one with out the other, Sam and Colby. On the coffee table sat a half eaten pizza and discarded video games. The t.v. was turned off as light drops of rain could be heard hitting the window pane outside. The boys joked as the mother of Colby sat in her room listening with a smile on her face. It reminded her of how she and Sam's mother were when they were younger. Just like their kids they were inseparable, and now that Ms. Golbach had moved back to Kansas the two high school best friends fell right back to where they left off.

The laughter quickly stopped as thunder was heard rolling in the distance. A flash of lightning illuminated the room as the overhead light flickered and then gave out. The whole day the boys were preparing for the storm that was said to be headed there way yet it still made both of them joked. Sam more so than Colby. The blonde was to afraid to admit out loud that all day he was praying the weather man was wrong and the storm would never come. He was to afraid to look weak and admit that thunderstorms scared him. He wished he could be brave like Colby but the noises always startled him. The blonde pushed back tears as Colby let out a giggle,

"I guess the news was right after all. Stay here while I go grab the flash lights we put in the kitchen." Sam didn't want to be left alone but let Colby go anyways. The petite boy quickly wrapped himself in blankets and built a small wall of pillows around him in hopes of distracting himself, but it all came crashing down as the loud rolling thunder crashed causing the boy to let out a yelp. He really did hate thunderstorms. His eyes threatened to spill over with tears and his body shook, he  missed his mother who use to hold him while storms passed by over the Kansas plans.

"Sammy, you alright?" Colby asked as he walked up to the covered boy with two small flash lights they had prepared, "O-Of course Colby I-I'm fine." Sam stuttered out. Colby shook his head, a frown on his face, "I know you Sam and you're lying to me." Colby pouted as Sam sighed. He wanted to tell the other boy the truth but he was afraid Colby would make fun of him for being such a baby, I mean he was ten years old he shouldn't have been so afraid. Only babies were afraid and he wasn't a baby.

"Come on tell me what's going on. I can see the tears in your eyes." Sam shook his head slightly as he hid himself beneath the mountain of blanket he had, "If I tell you, will you promise not to laugh?" Sam asked, his voice muffled by the fabric. Colby let out a small giggle, "I promise Sammy. I won't laugh." Sam sighed as he pulled down the blanket only letting his eyes show,

"I-I'm afraid of thunderstorms. I'm not a baby or anything I just don't like the loud noises!" Sam defended as Colby only shook his head. Sam's fear reminded him of something a puppy would be afraid of but didn't voice his odd caparison afraid Sam would be offended, "Ah come on Sam we're best friends. I don't care if you're afraid of thunderstorms. Come here." The ten year old brunette held his arms open as Sam moved towards him. He liked when Colby and him hugged, it made Sam relax just a little. Thunder rolled in the distance as Sam tightened his grip around Colby who only let out a small childish giggle,

"I got you Sammy. I promise, I'll always be here to protect you from the big scary thunder." Colby joked earning him a half assed punch in the shoulder from Sam.
