Chapter 14
So instead of discussing our 'surprise' for Karina, we're now having dinner at their mansion and this is not just a normal dinner, its the most awkward one that I've had in my life. All I could hear were the sounds of our utensils clacking. I can't imagine what scenario this couple would have kung wala kami ni Zade dito.
"I'm done." Karina said then excused herself.
Zues just continued eating na para bang walang nangyari. Ugh, I'm also done with this couple's drama. Like seriously, this could be solved by a mere conversation. I really do think that Karina's a little bit too stubborn on this issue.
"Zues, you have to understand her. She's your wife and you have the responsibility to take care of her." Zade said to his brother.
For now, let's ignore the fact that we both said the same thing to our siblings but yeah, let's ignore that for now.
"I know, I know. But its gonna be her birthday real soon and I want to finish everything before that and surprise her." Sagot ni Zues.
So that explains everything. Bottomline, the reason he can't actually talk to his wife was because of hi surprise. Complicated stuff that I don't understand, really.
It was Karina. She understands after all. She knew what her husband's intentions were.
Feelings, I still don't get them.
"Fine fine, I'll help you with the surprise. Ako nang bahala kay Karina." I volunteered when I've noticed that Karina already has left.
"What?"
"Are you done with your work?" I asked Zues. Tumango naman siya. "Alright. We're doing the surprise tomorrow."
"I have no problem with that but I have to talk to someone about her gift. I have to tell them to deliver it tomorrow." Sagot niya.
Zade and I looked at him as if we're asking what his gift was. Obviously, malaki iyon because it had to be delivered. Zues said that we can just see for ourselves kaya naman umalis kami ng mansion kasama siya para i-check ang 'regalo' ni Karina.
"What is this?" It was a freakin car, a freakin sports car.
"A car. I figured she should own one instead of having a driver." Sagot niya. I know its a car but.. ugh whatever, I don't wanna stress about it. Yung gumastos nga hindi nasstress eh.
"I can buy you one if you want." Zade said while smiling at me.
"No thanks, I can buy one myself."
It doesn't impress me kahit bigyan pa niya ako ng bahay at lupa. These two brothers are insane. They spend money like its not a problem, well, I guess its really not.
After checking her car, we went to a few events planner to hopefully help us plan the party.
"When's your birthday?"
"Secret."
"Nevermind, I'll know." He said.
"Just make sure you'll top my gift, brother." Sabi ni Zues sa kanya. Pabiro naman niyang sinuntok ang Kuya niya.
I actually see Karina and myself in them. The way Zues tolerates his brother ay parehong pareho kung papaano ako kausapin ni Karina.
The next day, I was in charge of accompanying Karina before the party starts kaya naman nandito kami ngayon sa mall. I tricked her into believing na birthday shopping ko na iyon para sa kanya.
"Why do I have to wear a gown?" She asked.
"You know what, di pa kita nabibilhan ng gown so I think its time para ako naman ang mag-spoil sayo." Sagot ko.
"Ohhh, okay." This is the thing with Karina, masyado siyang mabilis ma-convince, especially if she trusts that person so much. That's why she was easily betrayed by that woman.
I chose a white dress for her and a blue dress for me. I kept it simple dahil hindi naman ako ang star of the night mamaya. After shopping, we went to a salon and started prepping up.
Nagpahatid na kami sa mansion and when we arrived, all the lights were out.
"Uhm, what's happening? Brown out ba?" She asked while getting out of the car.
"Baka." Sagot ko.
I opened the door for her and let her walk inside. I saw Zues right in the middle of the crowd, singing a happy birthday song. She deserves to be happy, she deserves to be loved. She deserves everything that she's receiving right now in her life.
"You did a good job." Napalingon ako sa gilid and Zade was standing there, leaning against the wall.
"Hey. Bakit wala ka sa loob?"
"I assumed that you would be here. You don't have to be alone." He said. "You don't deserve to be alone."
I smiled at him. How can he find the right words to tell me? Maybe I also deserve this. I have long been punishing myself of our past, maybe its time to look forward to the future. Siguro its time to reward myself for all the work I've done for other people?
I might have wished too soon because the next thing I know, I'm facing Zade's parents right now.
"So, you're Kashmere." His mother said while looking at me from head to toe.
