Cleopatra sat in a dark corner of the court yard, keeping to herself. She had shed tears in silence and was now simply thinking to herself. She had her knees pressed against her chest, her arms wrapped around her legs. She tilted her head back and looked up at the sky, cloudless and blue.

She had been here only a day, but it felt like it had been a lifetime of hardship. She still couldn’t understand why everyone was so against her. She figured that Tyson had something to do with it. He was telling his friends all these lies about her. Who knows what he was telling them right now.

Cleopatra should have expected such treatment, though. Everyone in her life always hurt her and treated her like shit. She never knew why, they just did. But she was a strong girl, so she was just smile and take their abuse before turning it back on them, making them regret hurting her.

The sound of footsteps pulled Cleopatra out of her thoughts. Turning toward the sound of the noise, Cleopatra glared, expecting to see Hiro looking for her to insult her some more. Instead, she saw a guy with black hair and catty yellow eyes. Cleopatra gasped when she recognised him as Ray, another teammate of Tyson’s. And he was looking directly at her with a smile.

“So,” Ray said as he walked up to her. “You’re the one I’ve been hearing about?”

Cleopatra narrowed her eyes. “And you are?” she asked, pretending not to know who he is.

“My name is Ray,” he said. “I’m Tyson’s teammate.”

“I see,” Cleopatra muttered and looked away. “You’re here to pity him while give me a hard time then.”

“Hey, I only just got here,” Ray said as he sat down away from her.

“What is he saying about me?” Cleopatra asked, looking at Ray from the corner of her eye. He seemed nice now, but she won’t trust him. “I bet he’s saying that I’m some heartless bitch who purposely ran him over. Am I right?”

“Well, no, not really.”

Cleopatra snorted, not believing him. “I bet he’s having fun tormenting me, huh?”

“He’s not doing that,” Ray told her calmly.

Cleopatra knew he was on Tyson’s side. “You have no idea.”

“Ah, well…” Ray didn’t say anything and just scratched the back of his head.

“That brother of his,” Cleopatra hissed when she thought about Hiro. “Why is he such an asshole?”

“Hold on,” Ray said. “I think you’ve got a few things wrong here; Hiro isn’t an asshole and Tyson isn’t calling you a bitch.”

Cleopatra gritted her teeth, refusing to shed anymore tears over this situation. She snapped round to look at Ray and glared at him. “Then why are they treating me like this is all my fault!?”

Ray held up his hands in a peaceful motion. “Whether it’s your fault or not is irrelevant at this point,” he said in a calm voice. “What you need to do from this point is to keep your head down and not draw attention to yourself.”

Cleopatra wasn’t sure whether he was trying to comfort her or not, but he wasn’t doing a very good job. “Are you saying I’m an attention seeker?”

“I didn’t say that,” Ray sighed and actually rolled his eyes at her. “See? You’re so confrontational. Not everyone here is trying to pick a fight with you.”

“There is it again,” Cleopatra hissed as she jumped to her feet, turning around to face Ray fully. “Everyone is saying that it’s my fault.”

Again, Ray sighed and touched his forehead. “I didn’t say that.”

“But you were thinking it.”

“Look,” Ray said, his voice harsh and stern. “All I’m doing is trying to help you. If you stop picking fights with everyone, then things will move along more smoothly.”

“I don’t pick fights with everyone,” Cleopatra stated as she folded her arms over her chest. “They’re the ones who start it.”

“Right,” Ray sighed and heaved himself onto his feet. “Anyway, try to impress them with your actions, not your words.”

“It’s not my fault,” Cleopatra stated again for the millionth time. “I didn’t ask for this to happen. You have no idea how difficult things are for me. I was doing fine on my own until Tyson stepped in front of my car and totally ruined my life.”

“Ok, how about a change in subject?” Ray abruptedly said. “So, do you Beyblade?”

Cleopatra rolled her eyes. Was everything about Beyblade with this group? “No, I didn’t have time for silly games.”

Ray frowned at her, his eye actually giving a twitch. “Beyblade isn’t a silly game. It’s a national sport.”

“It’s a silly game to me,” Cleopatra replied as she flicked a strand of her hair over her shoulder. “I didn’t have time, ok? Not with the life I’ve had.”

“So, ah, you’ve had a difficult life then?”

Cleopatra immediately gave him her coldest and harshest glare. “I don’t want to talk about it,” she said through gritted teeth, tears immediately pooling in the corners of her eyes.

Ray’s eye gave another twitch. “You’re the one who brought it up.”

“Shut up!” Cleopatra yelled as tears blurred her vision. She didn’t want to think about her past right now. That was the last thing she wanted. “I said I didn’t want to talk about it!”

Ray stared at her for a moment, before he shook his head and turned away from her. “You know, you’re really difficult to talk to.”

Cleopatra blinked back her tears. “That’s just the way I am,” she muttered. “Get used to it.”

“No, actually,” Ray said as he walked away. “I don’t have to get used to it.”

A tear slid down Cleopatra’s cheek as Ray walked away. Her heart was aching. Couldn’t he see that she was really a shy, insecure girl deep inside? Couldn’t he see that she needed comfort? Needed to be taken into his arms and held as she cried?

Why was she always so misunderstood?
