After attending to Tyson’s injury, Cleopatra decided to go and pester Hiro some more. She was getting under his skin like he was getting under hers. It was childish, really, how he was treating her. Treating like trash was really his way of saying – you’re getting too close and are too good to me.
It was a very typical male thing to do.
Still, Cleopatra was angry at him for all the suffering and pain he had put her through just so he could save his own ego. He didn’t seem to understand how she was simply trying to help everyone out. She was just a sweet girl trying to do her best. But she was also a girl who didn’t take shit from anyone.
Which was probably why Hiro felt so uneasy and threaten by her. He didn’t know how to handle sassy girls like her. Which was quite obvious as the only female on the team was Hilary, and she was hardly girlfriend material.
She was hardy girl material.
Cleopatra had seen her a couple of times since becoming Tyson’s nurse and found her incredibly bossy, irritation and nosy. A real bitch in her opinion. She didn’t understand why she was even a part of the team in the first place.
What did she do, exactly?
Not that she was worth worrying about, mind you. She was simply annoying, but Cleopatra could handle her no problem.
What was worth her time, though, was trying to get through Hiro’s thick head that she was on to him. She saw through his treatment of her to his more vulnerable side, a side only she could bring out.
He wasn’t about to give in, though. He had been in his room for most of the day, trying his best to ignore her. But his best wasn’t all that successful. Cleopatra was standing in the door way to his room as he worked at his desk, and every now and again he would glance at her from the corner of his eye.
It was kinda annoying how long he was willing to play this game, but Cleopatra was a patient girl. If he wanted to play games, then yet him. She’ll win eventually.
“Why are you following me around?” Hiro suddenly asked her as he leaned back in his chair and gave her his full attention. “You’re Tyson’s nurse, not mine.”
Cleopatra smirked as she tilted her head to the side cutely. Did she sense a bit of jealousy there? Cute. But, honestly, her and Tyson? Never gonna happen.
“I know that,” Cleopatra said as she folded her arms behind her back and boldly stepped into his room. “But I think you’re in need of healing, as well.”
Hiro looked surprised for a moment. “Ok, how did you reach that conclusion?”
Cleopatra decided the direct approach was best. When dealing with guys like Hiro, it was important to get straight to the point so they don’t try to weasel their way out of it. “Your cold and rude attitude is obviously a sign that you’re hurting deeply inside.”
“Or,” Hiro said slowly. “I just don’t fucking like you.”
Cleopatra rolled her eyes at his ignorance. Typical guy response. “No, you’re hurting deep inside. I can see it in your eyes.”
“Oh dear god,” Hiro suddenly groaned as he slapped his head with his hand. His shoulders were slumped and he seemed to be annoyed.
Good. It finally meant she was breaking him down.
“Look, I don’t know where you get this shit from,” Hiro said as he stood up from his seat. Not only did he look annoyed and irritated, he sounded it too. “You need to remember something; you’re only here because you ran my brother over in your car and then you made a huge scene at the hospital. You’re not here because anyone likes you.”
Cleopatra only sighed and shook her head sadly. “You’re so cruel,” she said as tears began to sting her eyes. “Why are you so mean to me? I have done nothing but try to help you.”
“You really don’t understand, do you?” Hiro said to her, his eyes narrowing into a glare. “You’re not helping anyone by trying to force your way into our lives. You’re the one who is making things difficult for yourself.”
“I’ve done nothing wrong,” Cleopatra stated again. She was starting to get tired of always defending herself to everyone. She took a step toward Hiro, lifting up her hands so she could lovingly touch his cheek. “You need me, Hiro,” she said. “I can tell.”
“I’m done,” Hiro suddenly stated as he took a step away from her, purposely putting as much distance between them as he could. “You’re not listening.”
Cleopatra was about to accuse him of not listening to her or himself when suddenly he stepped around her, giving her a wide birth. He walked out of his room and headed toward the front door.
“Where are you going?” Cleopatra asked as she followed him, standing behind him in a concern manner as he took a moment to put his shoes on.
“Somewhere to get away from you,” Hiro muttered harshly in response.
Cleopatra shook her head in sadness and disbelief. “You can’t avoid me forever.”
“No,” Hiro said as he stood up, looking at her from the corner of his eye. “Just until you finish what you owe the BBA.”
Cleopatra blinked back the tears that were threatening to fall. “I’m not leaving until you start opening up to me.”
“You have done absolutely nothing that makes me hold even an ounce of trust in you.” Hiro’s voice was so cold, so cruel. “And this isn’t helping.”
“Hiro!” Cleopatra cried out in frustration as Hiro threw open the front door. She made the motion to reach out to him, to stop him from running away from her. But then Kai appeared. He was standing on the other side of the door, about to come in himself. A look of surprise flickered across his face when Hiro roughly pushed past him.
“What?” he muttered as he turned his attention to Hiro. “Hiro? What’s-”
“Later,” was Hiro’s only response before he abruptly and quickly walked away, leaving behind a crying Cleopatra. And not once did he look back.
Kai watched him look with a confused look on his face. He then turned to Cleopatra and furrowed his brow. “What’s going on?”
“Like you care!” Cleopatra yelled at him, angry that he interfered once again. “Asshole!”
She then spun on her heal and walked out to the courtyard. She needed some fresh air. And a quiet place to think about her life.
How much longer did she have to put up with this?
However, before Cleopatra could find her quiet spot she was interrupted by Kai’s voice once again. Not wanting to deal with him, she hid around a corner and pressed her back against the wall. If Kai found her alone, he’ll think she’s vulnerable and perfect for him to assault.
But then she heard another voice, this one belong to Tyson. She peered around from where she was hiding to watch and listen in silence. Her eyes widen, however, when she saw the sight of Tyson walking out of his room, without support.
“What are you doing?” Kai asked him.
“Kai!” Tyson said cheerfully. “Look! It doesn’t hurt to walk on anymore.”
“Yes, I can see that,” Kai said as he approached. “You still need to take it easy, though.”
“Pft! I’m fine. I’ll be up and blading in no time! Give me a day to two and you’ll see!”
A sense of dread washed over Cleopatra. A day or two? What did that mean for her?
