Although Cleopatra hated to admit it, Ray did might have given her something to work with. She couldn’t live like this anymore. She didn’t deserve this kind of cruel and mean treatment. Hiro and Tyson, and his little friends, need to understand that she wasn’t a bad girl.
But what more what more could she do for them? She was already nursing Tyson back to full health. What more do they need from her?
Cleopatra was in the lounge room, Tyson finally going back to his room after his friends left. He should have went into his room earlier, but was too stubborn and stupid to listen. He probably just prolonged his injury.
Sighing, Cleopatra resting her chin in her hand. She was flipping through channels on TV, but there wasn’t anything worth watching. There were a lot of annoying shows about Beyblade. Cleopatra felt as if she was the only person on this planet who didn’t beyblade and didn’t even like beyblade.
“What are you doing?”
Cleopatra resisted the urge to turn around and give Hiro yet another glare. He was always asking what she was doing. Didn’t he have anything better to do than annoy her?
“What does it look like?” Cleopatra muttered, nothing bothering to look at him. “I’m taking a break.”
“From what, exactly?” Hiro snapped. “You haven’t done anything.”
Cleopatra narrowed her blue-grey eyes and turned her head to look at him. “Why are you so cold to me? I haven’t done anything to you.”
Hiro rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. “Nothing other than running over my brother and then slapping me in the face.”
Oh, that was why he was annoyed. He was still mad that she slapped him. Must have been a blow to his ego being slapped by a girl. It only meant that he didn’t like strong women.
“Look, you deserved that slap,” Cleopatra told him bluntly. “I was highly emotional and you were acting like a jerk. You can’t treat girls like that. You’ll never get a girlfriend if you don’t lighten up.”
Hiro raised an eyebrow at her. “Oh, and I suppose you’ll be the one to help do that, huh?”
Was he flirting with her?
“Who knows,” Cleopatra said with a smirk. “I might be good for you.”
But Hiro rolled his eyes and dropped his arms from his chest. “Keep dreaming.”
The phone suddenly rang, stopping Cleopatra from saying anything else to him. He was obviously flirting with her, though he wasn’t very good at it.
“Why do I always attract assholes?” Cleopatra muttered as she turned back to the TV.
She tried to concentrate on flipping through the channels, but she was becoming curious of who was on the phone. She wondered if it was one of Hiro’s friends, and thought that he was probably talking about her to them. If so, then it wouldn’t hurt to listen in. Hiro was trying to get under her skin, it was pretty obvious. But it would help her immensely if she heard him actually speak about her. It’ll help her in getting past his cold demeanour.
Pressing the mute button, Cleopatra stood up and silently walked in the direction Hiro just took. She could hear his voice. Pressing her back against a wall, Cleopatra peered around and listened. She had great hearing, so she could hear what the other person on the phone was saying as well.
“Tyson might be an idiot sometimes,” the other voice, which was male, on the phone said. “but not even he would step out in front of a car.”
“Apparently, from what Tyson tells me, she jumped the gutter and hit him while he was on the footpath,” Hiro replied blankly, which made Cleopatra frown. They were still saying it was her fault.
“Maybe she was purposely trying to hit him?” the other voice said.
“That’s not very funny,” Hiro said sharply, and then sighed. “Even though there are days where I felt like doing it. I swear, there are days where I wouldn’t even feed him.”
“I know. How’s he going, anyway?
“Slowly,” Hiro answered. “Thanks to his nurse.”
Cleopatra’s frown deepened and she clenched her fists by her sides. What did he mean ‘slowly’ thanks to her? If Tyson had done what she told him, he’d be well on the way to recovery.
“Nurse?” the guy on the phone repeated. “Who’s nursing him back to health?”
“The girl who ran him over,” Hiro said, shaking his head.
“…What the fuck?”
“My reaction exactly,” Hiro muttered in reply. “Mr Dickinson says it’s so she can repay the hospital costs.”
“Does she have any nursing experience?”
“None.”
“What was her previous job?”
“Waitress.”
“Ok, I’m not at all happy with this logic,” the guy on the phone said. “I’m coming over. Be there in a few hours.”
For some reason, Hiro smirked at hearing that. “See you soon.”
When Hiro moved to hang up the phone, Cleopatra moved away from the wall and stalked back into the lounge room. She stood in the middle of the room, tears in her eyes and her body shaking. She was so mad. Furious! Hiro was talking about her behind her back, and wouldn’t even use her name.
But what pissed her off the most was the fact that the guy on the phone seemed to be questioning her abilities. How dare he? He didn’t know her. He didn’t know her situation. He didn’t know anything!
Stalking her way back to her room, the only place that was actually safe for her, she bumped into Tyson.
“Ow!” Tyson yelled as Cleopatra roughly pushed his away. “What did I do?”
“Shut up,” Cleopatra hissed, not even looking at him. “I hate this place.”
