A funeral had just ended in a small corner of Beycity Cemetery. Yet, there weren’t many mourners. No one was crying over the headstone that stood bare and small. They seemed uncomfortable, uneasy. Like they didn’t want to be there at all. Yet, that didn’t stop the quite mutterings. They whispered about the death in hushed tones in a respectful manner while also in a way that left many shaking their head in disbelief.

They all asked; how could it have come to this?

A few flowers were placed there on the gravesite, but they were placed there as sympathy, not because they were feelings of loss.

A lone, slender figure stood in front of the tombstone, a shadow casting over the name. White bandages adorned pale skin, a subtle testament to a struggle of life that only a few knew about.

Slowly, a lithe finger trailed over the engraved name.

Cleopatra Shinko.

“Shinko, huh?” Kai muttered as he dropped his hand to rest against his side again. “So that was her last name.”

He had thick bandages around his arms, his left arm tied in a sling. They were defensive wounds, mostly, from when Cleopatra attacked him with a fury and rage that was truly frightening.

He had no choice. He didn’t want to do it. He only did it out of self-defence. He hadn’t intended for her to die.

But it was the only way to stop her.

Slowly, Hiro approached him and stood by his side. Behind him, a few feet back where the rest of Grev. Tyson had been released from hospital and was recovering well from his poisoning. He was shaken by what happened, though. As was everyone else in their group. Each one of them thought; it could have been me who she attacked.

“It seems like everyone kinda knew she had some sort of mental condition,” Hiro suddenly said as he looked down at Cleopatra’s headstone.

Kai nodded his head. He had heard that from the few mourners that had actually attended the funeral. “That’s all well and good, but why didn’t they do anything to help her?”

“Good question,” Hiro muttered before he sighed. “I don’t know. I guess it’s because they didn’t want to deal with it.”

Kai could only nod his head. Unfortunately, mental illness still held a stigma that few wanted to deal with. To some, even professional doctors, mental illness doesn’t exist. If there were no visual symptoms, than it didn’t exist.

“It’s sad that it ended up this way,” Kai muttered. “She could’ve gotten the help she so desperately needed, but everyone let her down.”

“We probably didn’t do much to help, either.”

Kai glanced at the older man next to him. “It wasn’t your fault.”

Hiro shook his head. “She was moody, difficult and self-absorbed. I should have figured something was wrong when she kept trying to force her way into my life.”

“Hiro,” Kai said in a stern voice, his eyes narrowing. “You are the older brother to a famous person. And you’re famous in your own right. There are hundreds of girls out there who are willing to do whatever it takes to become your girlfriend. Even act as if they were another person. Once she entered your life, she wasn’t going to leave unless it was under her own terms. No matter what you did, she would not have left you alone.”

Hiro was silent for a moment before he sighed and touched his forehead, forcing a tight smile. “I know, you’re right. Still…”

Kai turned his attention back to the headstone. “Do you think her death will mean anything?” he asked.

“If anything, it’ll make us a little bit more wary toward others like her,” Hiro said in reply. He placed his hand on Kai’s shoulder in an attempt to lead him away. “Hopefully, we won’t have to go through this again.”

“Yeah…” Kai muttered as he turned away from Cleopatra’s silent headstone. He then felt very tired and he reached up to pinch the bridge of his nose. “This sucks.”

“Absolutely,” Hiro replied as he wrapped an arm around Kai’s shoulders. “The price of fame.”
