After the terrible treatment she received yesterday, Cleopatra was adamant that today was going to be much better. She was going to show everyone how much of a wonderful nurse she really was. And they’ll see how much of a jerk Kai really was.

She couldn’t understand why they seemed to like him so much. Sure he was hot, but that was it. He had a terrible personality and wasn’t even that good of a blader. She had heard that he had a dark and mysterious past, but that was probably just rumours. If there was anyone who demanded respect and admiration, it was her!

No, she wasn’t going to go there. She held back tears as she tried to push back the memories of her past.

Putting on a bright smile, Cleopatra stepped out of her room. She was slightly surprised to hear that other people were up. Usually she was the first one up. She headed toward the noise and looked into the lounge room. Immediately, a frown marred her pretty face when she saw that Tyson was sitting on a comfy chair watching TV, while trying to engage in some kind of conversation with Hiro, his arrogant older brother.

Cleopatra almost felt like telling Tyson that Hiro obviously wasn’t interested in talking, so he shouldn’t bother. But she kept it to herself. That was something Kai would say about her or something. She wouldn’t stoop down to his level of stupidity.

Instead she uttered a good morning to Gramps and headed into the kitchen, announcing that she would start breakfast now. She only made it as far as the sink, though, before someone intervened.

“You’re late,” he said harshly. “He’s already had breakfast.”

Cleopatra gritted her teeth as she immediately gripped the edge of the sink in annoyance. It was Kai. Great. She didn’t need to see his ugly mug so early in the morning. She tried to ignore him, but she could hear him walking around the kitchen, opening cupboards and getting things out of the fridge.

He was the one who made Tyson his breakfast? Well, that only made it even more obvious that he was trying to take her place as Tyson’s nurse. Honestly, what levels would he stoop to in order to get rid of her?

“Move,” Kai ordered harshly as he moved toward the sink.

Enough of his sexist and appalling behaviour, Cleopatra spun around and levelled him with a glare even he would cower from. It was time that she confronted him about his attitude toward her. It was time that he realised just who he was dealing with. She wasn’t some fangirl who would swoon over him.

“Look, I am seriously getting tired of you always interfering!” she snarled at him, refusing to budge from her position in front of the sink. “How can I possibly do my job if you keep butting in? I am his nurse! Why are you too stupid to realise that?”

Kai couldn’t even look at her as he placed a dirty plate in the sink. “I am his captain, if you didn’t know,” he told her blankly. “I believe I have a higher rank over you.”

“Oh, of course,” Cleopatra sneered, supressing a shiver of something she couldn’t explain from racing down her spine at how close Kai was to her. She could feel his body heat and smell his manly scent. “Can’t have a woman a higher rank than a man, can we?”

“Whatever,” Kai muttered as he rolled his eyes and moved away from her quickly.

Cleopatra smirked in triumphant. So she was right. Kai was afraid of powerful women who stood up for themselves. “I know, why don’t we ask Mr Dickinson and see what he has to say about this? After all, it was his decision.”

“Yes, why don’t we?” Kai suddenly replied. “Maybe I can ask him why he thought this was a good idea.”

The way he said that made Cleopatra’s blood boil. He almost sound delighted, as if he could somehow twist this opportunity to his favour. Ringing Mr Dickinson would obviously prove that she was in fact more important than Kai, but Kai could be manipulative and evil. He could tell him all these lies about her, making her lose her job!
