Parting Ways

Haruhi's POV

We only have one chance. We have to get this right, or Hikaru and Kaoru are never coming back.

We walked into their house, and both Hikaru and Kaoru immediately pushed me back and told me to stand behind them.

We found their parents relaxing in the lounge, watching a giant tv, looking like they were enjoying their money.

"Mother, father?" Hikaru awkwardly said.

Their mom turned around surprised. "Hikaru? Kaoru? Why aren't you boys at school?"

Their very intimidating dad stood up and asked, "What's going on?"

"Well...I...I mean Kaoru and I...we uh..."

Hikaru looked terrified, I'd never seen him so scared.

Kaoru stepped up and said, "We don't want to stay here".

Their parents looked shocked.

"And we don't want to get married".

"What?!" Their father yelled. "We told you that we need more money and-"

"No we don't!" Kaoru looked furious. I've never seen these sides of Hikaru and Kaoru before. "You don't need more money, we could loose most of our money and still be perfectly fine! You just want more money! None of this is necessary and it's hurting me and Hikaru!"

Clearly Kaoru had never snapped at his parents like that before; both of them had an expression of disgust, as if they'd never been stood up to before.

Hikaru was finally able to do the same and said, "I refuse to get married to someone I don't love and Kaoru and I will be going back to Japan and there is nothing you can do to stop us".

Their parents turned to eachother and whispered something.

Their mother turned back to us and said, "It seems you forgot that you signed a contact with us".

"Your mother and I can leave you two homeless and penniless for not getting married, ofcourse we would never do that, but we are not letting you leave. And even if we did take everything away from you, it wouldn't be neglecting our children, it would be a lawful, business transaction".

"By the way, we do see you hiding your little girlfriend behind you. It's been a while since we've seen you Haruhi, how are you?"

"At the moment, I'm a little upset because you two are in the way of my happiness".

"I'm sorry but this is the way it has to be. Haruhi, my husband and I will pay for a plane ticket back to Japan for you, and you and Hikaru will have to part ways..."
