                                                                             Chapter 4

Oh my goodness, a shape shifter! How is this one alive though, Uncle Dave said they were all killed off?  Heaving as he stands, the boy takes a step towards me. Instinctively I thrust out my hands making the two trees start to bend to him. “Whoa, wait a second! I mean you no harm, I promise! I have been exiled just like you!” he exclaims. The tone of his voice and the look in his now startling gray eyes tell me that he is telling the truth, or at least part of it. “I was just a baby when my parents died. My Uncle Dave took me in and raised me until I was eight. It was my eighth birthday when I was coming back from a walk in these woods. I felt the woods grow dark in a warning and began to run back to the house.” Tears fill my eyes as I recall the worst part of this memory. “When… When I arrived everything was gone, like it was never there. The only thing that was left was a note lying in the middle of the area saying, I love you and a leather necklace with five crystal beads on it. My uncle used to wear the necklace, and I have never token it off since.” With my cheeks soaked with salty tears, I scream “Now does that sound like exile to you?” Glaring at him, I was surprised when he had the nerve to whisper yes. About to make the trees squeeze the life out of him, I stop when I feel the earth shake from a strange large thumping. The vibrations were getting stronger until even the boy could feel it to. “Is this vibration natural?” he asks. Shaking my head I feel the forest around turn dark and cold. The spirits of the trees and plants’ spirits learn as far away as possible from the strange creature coming our way.
