Chapter 13
A breeze swiftly came and whispered in my ear as I rocked gently on my pale blue wooden rocking chair. Muto is sitting next to me in a matching chair, I watch as the sunset fills his eyes making them almost golden in the light. The breeze came and gently swung his loose dark curls that revealed its secret golden strands mixed in. This sight made my chest ache from my heart trying to burst through as my body was trying to get me to get closer to him, but I managed to remain cool and still. He turns his head and smiles warmly, I smile back. We are locked in each other’s gaze then Muto slowly reaches out and grasps my hand gently. Heat rushes to my face making me blush. Softly he starts to sing a song that pulls from the back of my mind. Suddenly I recognize it; it was the song that my uncle taught me. He told me that my mother would sing it to me everyone at night as my lullaby. Tears fill the brim of my eyes as I watch the setting sun and trees become a salty swishing pool. The memories of my uncle and I sitting in the forest singing with his acoustic guitar. Wiping away my tears I join Muto in the song, we sing until the sun has left the stars and moon to shine and the fireflies dance beneath us. “I should go get dinner done.” I tell Muto awkwardly. I hated leaving this moment, it was one of the best I ever had. With the sun setting Muto and the forest a glow and the perfect mixture of our voices blending together, I was so at peace and maybe love. Standing up I notice that Muto is still holding my hand, the feeling of his warm, soft hand made me almost want to forget dinner and just spend the rest of the night sitting with him. “Okay” he whispers, he slowly pulls his hand away, making our finger tips brush lightly against each other.
After a meal of hearty veggies, I go to bed after Muto and I have done all our night things. Dragging myself into my bed, I feel so tired but ironically I can’t sleep. Thoughts of Topaz, Muto and my growing powers race through my mind. Finally my eyelids seemed to be soaked in metal making them impossible to open, leaving me no choice but to drift to sleep.
