Chapter 14
Everything is dark, like I’m staring into thick black blanket. Suddenly a blood curdling growl erupts from my left followed by a scream. The scream sounds familiar…. Like Topazes. I burst towards the horrible sound, expecting to find her seriously hurt but I find nothing, just thick and heavy air. I hear another scream that sounds like Muto’s and rushes toward it. I try to scream out his name but it’s like someone stole my voice because I couldn’t make a single sound. Scream after scream fills the room, sinking to the ground on my knees. I sob and feel as the salty tears start to form a puddle around my hands on the cold concrete floor. Then I feel it, the presences of something evil. I smell the stench of blood and meat on its hot breath, which blows on my neck. The feeling of paralyzing eyes leaves me frozen in place as I have choice but to scream as the unseen beast lunges at my throught. My eyes snap open as feel the rough scream escape my mouth before I clamp my sweaty hands over it to silence myself. Bang! Muto comes charging in through my French oak doors in wolf form. Snarling, I see anger in his eyes as he scans the room with all his silver fur on end. After a moment he gently pads over and nudges my hand with his nose. “It’s okay, it was just a nightmare.” I smile reassuring, I watch as he relaxes and settles down next to my bed, telling me that he is not leaving my side tonight. I have never known what it is like to have such a good friend. One that will help you when you need it at moment’s notice.
I feel the earth quiver with fear beneath me. My eyes snap open, looking around I see that it is still dark out and Muto is still curled up and sleeping beside my bed. I feel it again, the forest cowering in fear as something massively huge is hurtling towards the village. “Topaz! ” I scream. Muto springs to his paws and growls, “The village is in danger, and we have to leave NOW!” I exclaim. I pick up Muto (who is actually lighter than I thought) and run towards my window. I don’t count; I just jump, hurtling towards the ground. I see the sky starting to lighten up, making the stars almost impossible to see. I force the vine to grab me around the waist and lower us down, to the soft dewy moss beneath. The second I touch down, I drop Muto on his paws and take off running. Running faster than I ever had before, I feel the deadly thump of the beast that is hurtling towards the village. Nothing so massive and evil has ever threatened the village before, this monster will really test my skills. I’m relieved when I see that I had arrived in the village first, so I scurry over to the wooden bell tower and ring the giant metal bell back and forth until I see everyone in village creep from their homes and into the town square. When everyone sees me ringing the bell, they all race to the safe house down by the shore of the beach. I scramble down the rickety ladder and see that Muto couldn’t have arrived at a more perfect time. The second I feel his soft fur brush my fingertips I hear a blood curdling roar, just like the one from my dream.
