"Nice to have you back here, (Y/N)." I sent a tight lipped smile as I set my bag down on my old bed. It was always strange to be back here, but it was probably due to me being a completely different person than I was before I had to leave. My mother had separated from my father because she couldn't handle his way of life. It was hard on everyone. . . "Later on, that kid, Poe, you remember him? His family is holding a small welcome back party and eat some of the best food in America." I let a small laugh pass my lips and knew that it gave him a sense of pride. "I'll leave you to unpack, Kiddo. . ."
"Alright Luke. . ." I wasn't comfortable calling him 'Dad' just because he never really felt like a father, he was always that awkward friend who can be cool at times. I laughed as I remembered one summer we went camping and he had tried to set up the tent. Resulting in him tripping over tangled wires and rolling into the lake. I laughed a little louder because I couldn't contain myself, but quieted down so Luke wouldn't think I'm crazy laughing by myself. I began to place my clothes into my drawers and remembered when I was too short to reach the top drawer. I sighed, missing this room. . .it was weird only visiting here every summer then leaving for the majority of the year. I always felt a tug pulling me back here, like I was meant to be here, it felt like my calling.
. . .
"I've missed you!" I laughed as my closest friend I've made in this town, Rey Kenobi, pulled me into a strong hold. She seemed a little too strong for her small size, but I gripped her back because I missed her more than anything in this place. "My grandmother makes the best mexican rice ever, you have to try some!" She pulled me inside where the rest of her family sat around on couches or at tables laughing and having a wonderful time. I smiled because I missed what family felt like, this felt warm and calming. "(Y/N) is here!" Everyone smiled and said their hellos and Rey took me to go grab food.
"This food smells incredible." I smiled while picking up a plate and beginning to serve myself with a delighted smile on my face. "How's school been? It sucks I haven't seen you in a really long time."
"It's alright, I'm actually in the top seven percent of my class at the moment." She had a small smile of pride on her face as I hugged her tight before grabbing tongs to grab a piece of chicken. "Finn and I both miss you a whole lot, you wouldn't be able to stay longer than summer, would you?"
"Honestly, Rey, I have no idea at this point. But it is a possibility, I feel like my mom deserves to spend more time with her new boyfriend, Mark, so maybe I might." She squealed with joy and I flinched at how loud she was. "Let me talk it over with my dad, I just got back, Rey. . .give me some time to settle in." We both shared a quiet laugh and listened to the music playing outside.
"Let's go, Grandpa is going to tell the ancestor story again!" Rey's younger cousin, Seth pulled both of our hands until we sat on the grass near the fire. I smiled warmly and waited for the stories to start.
"Long ago the land was a much colder place than it is already. . .it was ran by the cold souls, the bloodsuckers. They were evil, emotionless creatures. Only out for blood and innocence. But there lived a balance in life between the living dead and the alive. . .a witch, a witch who believed there needed to be a creature just as strong and powerful as the cold ones. . .that creature being. . .a wolf.
