Human. The term never felt like it implied to you. You were a person, yes, but human....not exactly.
You were just a science guinea pig. An experiment gone wrong. That's all you were.
Even though you were on the Avengers team and the members knew you pretty well, you weren't close. You were the type of person who was hard to get close to; you always had a line for people. What they could know, what they couldn't know, where you could be and where you couldn't, things like that. Just in case.
The only person you were close with was Peter. You didn't know what it was about him, but he always managed the line you had for everyone else and you didn't mind.
You were afraid to let him get close yet you let it happen. Everyday he learned something about you that no one else knew about. Your panic attacks, nightmares, etc. Everything you kept locked inside of you was coming out little by little, and it scared you.
He would find out soon, you knew he would. But it seems like when you keep things to yourself for so long and decide to let it out, it doesn't stop. It keeps going until the one thing you wanted hidden comes out. It always did. It always ruined everything.
Sweat ran down your face as you tossed and turned in your bed. Another nightmare.
Five year old you being dragged away from your father by HYDRA. Something you don't stop thinking about during the day, and it seems you don't stop thinking about it at night either.
"Daddy!" You screamed, your eyes red as tears streamed down your face. Men held your father back as he called your name.
"Daddy no! Please don't let them take me! Daddy!" You began hitting the men, screaming at them to let you go. Your throat was sore and dry, your face soaking wet. You tried to use your tiny feet to kick their legs, but it didn't work.
All you wanted to do was hug your father. Just once.
They laid you onto a table, then began to strap you down. You kept asking what they would do, but they never answered. They never said anything, in fact.
Wires were stuck to your head while a blue substance was injected into your arm. Your arm began to sting and turn a bright red color. You closed your eyes tight and wailed as the sting spread throughout your entire body.
Throbs that felt like bee stings were endless. You wailed and asked them to help and to stop, that you wanted your father. But they never said anything. Not a word.
One of the men flipped a switch, making the stinging pain stronger, and stronger, and stronger. Your screams turned into gasps for you to scream once again. The screams echoed in your ears, your vision blurred. It got to strong for you, causing you not able to scream even though you wanted to. Your vision blurred, the throbbing pain still going through your body, until-
You shot up from your bed and began to hyperventilate. You rubbed your arms up and down, still feeling the pain. You were sobbing without even knowing. You gripped your hair, slightly pulling it. Your body trembled and ached. You had this dream almost every night, yet every time it felt more real.
Once you calmed down, you ran your fingers through your hair. From that moment on, you weren't human. You were a mutant. You sighed looking down at your hands.
The blue aurora surrounded your hands brightening the room. You slightly moved your fingers, causing a twinkle sound. It was beautiful to look at, and at times was cool to play with, but it wasn't beautiful to live with. Feeling like an outcast, having to hide your hands in your pockets or wear gloves just in case it decided to go against you.
You sat thinking why they chose you to do the experiment on. Maybe it was because you were Tony Starks daughter, or just the fact that you wouldn't be able to fight back even if you tried your hardest.
Whatever the reason, they ruined your life.
"Y-Y/N?"
You instantly hid your hands under the covers and gasped. Standing in the doorway was Peter in his Iron Man pajama set.
"Peter? What are you doing?" You whisper yelled.
"I heard..I heard you scream so...I-I just wanted to see if you were okay."
You only nodded. You had no idea what to say. I mean, what do you say in that instance? 'Oh yeah I'm a super mutant sorry I didn't tell you.'
"You never told me...you could...do that."
You looked down at your feet. "I was too scared to."
"What?" He sounded genuinely hurt and shocked. "Why?"
You shrugged. "I just didn't want you to be afraid of me."
He sat beside you and put his arm around you. "I love you for who you are. That just adds to the list of reasons I love you."
You gave a small smile. "Thanks."
He laid his head on top of yours. "Get some rest, we have a mission in the morning."
And for once that night, you did.
