- 9:55 pm: Tuesday night, Kou Gasai -
I look around my living room, not interested in what is going on in the TV. I could really feel the loneliness from being alone at home. This was a feeling I hadn't felt in a long time, almost since I adopted the kids. The TV was on mute so the eerie silence was pretty obvious.
Wow, I can't believe Alisha convinced me to stay home. Well, it is better than staying in the school with that Kino. I can finally relax here.
I smile and switch the channel to some music channel. I finally feel myself relax and I close my eyes as I rest my head on the sofa.
"Kou-"
"Ah!" I jump at a voice calling out to me and look up to see a startled Akira. "A... Akira! What the hell are you doing?!" I yell and get up as he backs up.
"Alright now, you know you should not yell, yes? Calm down, calm down." He motions with his hands and I sigh with my hand curled up into a fist.
"You come out of nowhere, without a warning, scare me... And then ask me to calm down?" I look at him with a disappointed face and sit down after another sigh. He chuckles nervously and sits next to me. I feel the atmosphere suddenly fill with tension as I look at him.
"Alright, I came here to ask you some questions regarding your condition." He starts saying with a serious expression and looks at me. I nod, letting him know I'm all ears. "What is the real reason you were angry? It didn't feel right when Alisha was so hesitant in telling me. It felt as if you both were hiding something from me." He waits for me to speak and I look at the floor while fumbling with my fingers. "Kou, I am your doctor. I have all the right to know about the cause of your situation- and thoroughly." He sighs and I look up at him.
"Alright, it's a long story though." He doesn't say anything but looks at me blankly. His joins his palms and crosses his fingers while he supports his chin with his elbows on his knees. "Okay, so I've thinking about the accidents that have been happening around the town. I have been searching into the cases and my mind is just stuck in this... in this mess. A mess that I don't even know who created. I just always feel this relationship between the scenes and me experiencing... weird things." I stumble on my words and explain him as best as I can. I go to continue but he starts speaking.
"When you say 'weird things', what do you mean by that?" His narrow eyes pierce right through me and I look at the carpeted floor.
"Um... I don't know how to explain it but... Once, my friends and I had a sleepover here... And, I went to take a shower after I woke up. There, I heard this voice whispering something in my ear. I remember losing control after that. Everything after that is a blur. Then, whenever I sleep... I-I hear chants and what not. The voice sounds familiar yet strange. It's like someone is out there, haunting me and letting me know of their existence." I try to remember what I heard so many times.
"Do you remember what you heard? When you sleep or when you where in the bath?" He asks and I shake my head in guilt.
"It's still very blurry. In bath, I... remember hearing my full name. When I go to sleep, I remember... someone saying that they know what I am doing and they will stop me from finding out any further. That's all I remember." I say and bend forward with my forearm resting along my thighs.
"Okay, continue with your story." He says and leans back on the sofa. I hum and scratch my head.
"Then, with all of this... I had my exams and at that time, I met this guy. I don't know how he acts towards others but he has been pretty rude to me since we... well, met. Just like Alisha said, his presence itself boils my blood, and now: he is a fuc- freaking student in the school I go in." I try my best to not swear in front of Akira. He doesn't say anything so I look back to see him narrowing his eyes.
"What were you about to say?" He asks, his voice getting deep while I look away. I clear my throat and rock myself forward and backward.
"Nothing at all." I smile a toothy smile and he sighs.
"Anyway, it seems that it is the variation in your emotion. It is too much: for example, when I came here today, you were startled and the next second you were mad. You tend to get like that." He says and I look at him blankly.
"Anyone would be mad if someone scared them like that. It's not unusual." I stand up and cross my arms.
"I never said it is unusual. You just tend to exaggerate your emotions without even noticing. This causes the situation you are in right now." I hum as I hear him say while I walk towards the kitchen. I make some coffee as he starts explaining what I could do to avoid this. "You should make sure that you are not exaggerating your emotions. It is fine until you are feeling like you can handle yourself and not act suspicious. You need to make sure you will not experience sudden change in emotions.
Right now, we don't know what Vengeance is after. Her first move was when your parents died. She killed your parents and injured you badly. You had to move here for more safety. If I look at your record, you have improved with controlling Vengeance since you came to earth. Now-"
"Here, have a cup of coffee and shut up for once." I grunt and pass the cup of coffee to him as he sighs. "Seriously, you know you don't have to worry too much. Just give me the keywords and I'll try my best to follow your instructions." I smile at him and he nods after thinking a little.
"I understand. Thanks for the drink by the way." He says and sips his coffee while I smile back and take a seat in front of him on the dining table.
- 4: 35 am: Wednesday morning, Kou Gasai -
I wait for the kids' bus to arrive as I cross my arms from the cold. I see a bike in the distance and squint my eyes to see Alisha riding back home. She waves quickly and stops next to me.
"Hey! How was school?" She removes her helmet and smiles at me.
"It was great, but kinda boring without you. Even the brothers thought the same, especially Kou." She giggles while I sigh and cross my arms. "Oh by the way, in math class: we started a group project so Kino didn't have a partner...." She trails off as she smiles with fear in her eyes.
"And?" I don't take the hint and ask further.
"Um, sir said that, you are going to be his partner." She squints back in defense while I look at her with bored eyes. I sigh and try to keep calm as best as I can. "Woah, you have changed since I went to school. What happened?" She asks and checks my forehead. I shake my head while sighing as I take her hand off.
"Nothing. I'm just trying to follow the instructions Akira gave me." I cross my arms as the school bus comes in view.
"Really? It must've been a huge influence then. Hm, nice!" She smiles brightly and I sigh.
