- 4:28 am: Saturday morning, Kou Gasai -
"If you had shook her hand, she would've known you were a vampire! I trust her, but if the information leaks, we are as good as dead- plus, she is not much into vampires. She is the only person I can trust after all. I was clingy because you kept moving away, remember: I told you to stay close. Lia will give more mercy than the others, trust me on that one. And if we go to their home, it will be harder for us to hide what we came here for and we will just waste our time. Time goes exactly the same here as on the surface so if we waste time here, we waste time there. As for Cordelia, it's just her name, okay? She is not the brothers' mother." I cross my arms and start walking towards the structure to get back on track.
"Okay. All of that makes sense I guess. I'm sorry, I'm just not used to going into an unfamiliar world like you, sweetheart." I glare at him as soon as he says that but he just raises his hands in front of his face to defend himself. We both walk towards the gate that separates us and the structure we call Grim High Tower. I hide behind a rock as I peek around the edge and Kino follows close behind. I look around the lower status land where the average demons roam and see no one.
"Why is no one around?" Kino asks as he sees me looking around. I look at him and put my back straight against the giant rock.
"People don't like to roam around this area a lot because of the hierarchy. The most they travel is to the point where we met Lia." I say and look back at the tower.
"Why though?" I look at him while making sure the "guards" of the place don't hear us.
"They are too scared." I look around the walls created from rocks and walk inside with very light steps. We both enter the building without anyone seeing us and straight away go towards an empty room where several clothes are hung according to the hierarchy in the tower itself. I look around in the dark to see the lower status having a different kind of talisman attached to the hanger. "Hm..." I hum and Kino looks from behind my shoulder.
"What is it?" I move a little away so he can see. He looks closer at it without touching anything. "This is slightly different from what you showed me. It looks like it's made out of gold instead of platinum. Why?" He whispers next to my ear and I feel a shiver run down my spine.
"It shows the status in the tower. Platinum is the highest ranking while gold is used for the lower rankings. Silver is the lowest ranking." I start walking away while holding onto Kino's wrist. I poke my head out of the room we are in and start walking along the long corridor.
"You sure we won't get caught? They might have security. They might be watching us through a camera or something." Kino whispers and I look at him in confusion.
"Do you really think a magical realm such as this will have something like CCTV camera security?" I shrug in obviousness at him and he scratches his head in embarrassment. We both continue to walk and look around a corner to see the hallway completely empty. I narrow my eyes as I look at the end of the corridor. I stand up straight and pull Kino to the front of me and tell him to listen to anything he can. He leans further as much as he can without peaking around the corner. After a couple of minutes, he turns to me with a disappointed look.
"I don't hear anything. Not even footsteps." My eyes widen at that and I hold his wrist tighter than before and straight away dash for the exit. We run out without being seen, at least that's what I think, and are soon in the safe zone. "Woah! What happened?" He asks as I start walking into one of the many narrow spaces formed between rocks and start creating a portal.
"We are going out of here. They knew we were in there all along. It was too dangerous to stay in there any longer. We'll have to come here again later." I go to speak again but am pulled back by Kino wrapping his arms around my waist into a dark corner of the area. "Wha-" He covers my mouth before I can say anything else. I hear footsteps and a silhouetted figure reaches the end of the alley.
"Do you see them?" I hear a female voice as now two figures appear at the other end of the alley.
"No, but I sure as hell sense the bastards." Another female voice with a higher pitch reaches my ears. "How dare they come into our territory without even any permission. Who do they think they are?" The same person continues to talk and starts coming further into the alley.
"I don't think they are here though." Another female, outside of the area we are in, speaks. The other female stops walking any further inside and turns around towards the other.
"I SAW them come here. What do you mean they might not be here?! Where could've they have gone?! You dingus!" She replies in a very harsh tone and stomps her heel against the stoned floor. With a last turn towards our direction, they leave when I hear one of them say again. "I'm telling you I sense them here!"
"Damn it, I do to! But we need to prepare for the meeting 6 days later. Everyone will be there and we NEED to be there!" With that, they walk off and I smirk beneath Kino's hand that still rests over my mouth. He removes his hand at the tingling feeling and whispers to me.
"What happened?" I turn to him, the smirk still on my face.
"Looks like we have a reason to be in the tower 6 days later." I look towards the direction they exited from and walk a little further to have some space to create the portal. "I'll tell you later. Let's get home for now." I look at him and he hesitantly nods.
